That's what I'm talking about! Thank you MrPibb000!

My niece has done this with her children and they are wonderful kids, thoughtful, kind, and obediant without being wimpy. Remember that wonderful word "meek" does not mean "mouse".
Thank you for the encouragement!

How do you start a poll, I want to start one to see how many people just think its an evil satanic worshiping cult book thing.

Not sure, if you do make it a simple unbiased poll. (such as a simple "It Harry Potter Appropriate?, Yes, No, Unsure"

why? I mean I wanna get christians view on it, to see whether or not people have changed their minds

If you are looking for a Christian view this is the place, I am just saying that if you are looking for an overall opinion it is biased.

I don't mean that as a negative comment towards the forums.

Some christians think Harry Potter is evil, because that is what they are told. I feel we need to read the books before we say they are evil. We can't fully understand the book without reading it.

But witchcraft is evil. And anything that promotes witchcraft is evil!

I'd like to draw a comparison, if I may.

Harry Potter to Crash. See, in the movie Crash, racism is rampant, and it's flung in every direction--white people hating black people, black people hating white people, and so on with even more ethnicities. Now, that movie might seem to be about racism, but it really is not. In the movie, people often are forced to accept help in life-or-death situations from someone they hate, or to help someone they hate... and some people who seem to be very tolerant of other races are the ones who wind up shooting the stereotypical opposition race in the back (i.e. a white guy shoots a black guy, even though the white guy was portrayed as the only tolerant one throughout the movie until that point).

Harry Potter might seem to be about witchcraft at first glance, but it really is not. It's about good triumphing over evil, really. Witchcraft isn't the message, but a tool used in the depiction of the good-wins message. Just as in Crash, where racism was not the message, but the tool for the you-don't-know-who-you-are-until-you're-tested message.

It seems to me that those incapable, or those simply unwilling, to look past the immediate surface to find the true promotion in a book or movie, are the ones who will find Potter to be evil. Those who can see the surface for what it is, which is aesthetic pleasantries, and get to the real meaning, will have no problem with it on a moral level (although it may not be their cup of tea anyway, since no one likes everything they have no moral opposition to... I myself have no moral opposition to regular coffee, yet I don't like it, as an example).

How many of you have the harry potter books, how many of you have children that are obsessed with them?

I have most of them. My children have not read them.

Some people might say that Harry Potter is not a witch at all, but a "magician."

They would be incorrect if they were to claim any of the characters at Hogwarts is just a "magician." They are witches and wizards in training (children) and in practice (adults), as the book's basis revolves around. Someone claiming anything less would be, for me, rather hard to take very seriously in conversation.

I tell you now, the Harry Potter series severely damages young people's ability to differentiate "Good" from "Evil" and paves the way for other "New Age" ideas to flow in without resistance, unless of course you intervene with the word of the living God.

I wholeheartedly agree. And while I could add to what you've said in terms of the craft and what the Word speaks to on this issue, there are so many more issues with this series that one doesn't need to rely on the witchcraft aspect to know the dangers it can pose.

I'm not saying a whole lot right now; I'm just not sure how far I want to go with the whole "Harry Potter thing." It's been a while since I've been in a HP discussion. Not to mention, I haven't read this entire thread yet, and it would be prudent for me to do that before I go too far in any commentary I might offer. ;)

Just my initial 2¢ to add to the pot. :)

Blessings, HITR

Well actually 'magician' would be a better term to use in a sense as the 'magic' that goes on in the books are in no way similar to 'real' magic(k) and as you may have noticed, 'wizard' and 'witch' springs up many misconceptions about the book. For example, if Harry was a magician I would really wonder whether any of this 'HP is evil' talk would ever have appeared.
