Its my main obsession!!! I started like alot of people with the loveable and almost cringe worth sounds of a grade 3 group playing recorders! I started piano and then start my main instrument of flute. I got up to grade 7AMEB before school life got to hectic. I also dabbled in piccolo for band cause we needed one and its almost exactly the same. On tour I did play other woodwind instruments but I doubt that I can claim then as being an Instrument I can 'play' I can play mary hard a little lamb and as such but thats as far as I got in the hour.

Were you talking of me, Blessed? If so please don't spell my name the girlie way!

Anyway, my instrumental repertoire consists of piano, bass, guitar and drums. Did up to 7th grade piano but quit lessons because things got busy leading up to HSC, but I still practised because music was one of my subjects. I taught myself guitar in Year 9 and drums and bass soon after. It's piano and guitar at church, and I've started singing again, so since I consider the voice to be an instrument that will be added to te list.

I started to learn the Clarinet (sp?) in sixth grade and I kept up with in until I started high school (grade 8 up here). I quit because my two years with it was spent with one teacher who was incompetent and one teacher who preferred to gossip so I would have spent maybe 20% of the time actually being taught. That and I don't actually like the Clarinet solo. I actually taught myself a fair bit out of my books so when I do take it out I can still play it half decently.

I'm looking into learning the cello or the violin at the moment, but it will all come down to money and time. I hope I can do it though. I absolutely love the string instruments.

One instrument I never use is my voice. My cat sings better than I do.

great Kira! i've always wanted to try the flute.. but never get around to learning it.

ops. sorry, Kristian. i really didn't realise it's spelt Kristian.. the sound just got stuck in my mind. Won't happen again..

i dropped piano in yr 11 and i got up to grade 7 as well. (same for another guy i met at uni) wonder how many people drop piano while they're just one step to grade 8 before HSC!

Guitar's nice, don't remember how to play it.
do you sing in the choir?

you guys learn so many instruments. Amazing.

i hardly believe that, Marissa.. about your cat.
the violin? it's funny how a badly played violin can sound like something shrieking.. i enjoy music produced by many violins in the orchestra, but for some reason, i just can't get into tune with it. Solo violin is.. weird.

Why thank you Butterscotch. No need to be too sympathetic though; it'll drag us off topic.

My primary school had a recorder group that played at the Opera House a few times, and there were all the different sizes, so it actually combined for a great sound. I've played a bass recorder before and found it quite mellow and interesting. Here's a little piccy to show you all the many different sizes of recorder (the bass is second from right and around a metre long).

yeah my mum had a whole heap of them, but we were just the entire females of grade 3 so it kinda was sucky sounding! I'm right now on the hunt for a 2nd hand piccolo!! anyone know where in brissy I could look, cause they are hard to come by cause most people who get to piccolo stage don't normal sell them like u would a student flute etc..............

To kira:

Well, there's this on ebay. I don't know if it's what you're looking for but I put Piccolo into the search and this came up in our area. You'd have to ask if they allowed pick up though (and who'd spend that much without it?).

Other than that (and the normal avenues you're already paying attention to) it might be worth checking in with music (instrument) stores when you pass by. Some stores will sell second hand goods for others. Your chances are slim, but it would only take 20 seconds as your passing by so what's to lose?

*waves to Bev*

Nice to see you back again.
