The Mystery of Christ’s Human Nature

There is a mystery in Scripture regarding Christ’s human nature:

In order to save fallen beings, Christ “had to be made like His brethren in all things” (Hebrews 2:17). Jesus appeared on earth “in the likeness of sinful flesh” (Romans 8:3). He was tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:1-11) and by what He suffered (Hebrews 2:18). “He was tempted in every way, just as we are” (Hebrews 4:15). Scripture also teaches that Christ is “holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners” (Hebrews 7:26).

How do we reconcile these seemingly incompatible statements?

He resisted temptation...we could resist we choose not to. Jesus is the Son of God sent to die so we might live. I believe Adam and Eve could have resisted as will but they chose not to. We all too often use our sinful nature as an excuse. Yes we have all sinned but are we destined to sin or do we choose to sin. I think much more sin is caused by us making excuses. Jesus wants us to be perfect. We are to strive for perfection. We are not perfect but if we would put perfection as the standard to strive towards than we'd be much less sinful. Anyway that is just my opinion.

Christ had the Holy Spirit all along and kept it with Him. We did not and do not. When we sin it is us sinning if we would hold tight to the Holy Spirit and only let the Spirit guide us we would not sin...the Spirit is all good...we sin by living for the flesh not the Spirit.

John 1:32
And John bore withness,"I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, "He on whom you see the Spirit decend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God."

I believe once we ask Jesus into our hearts and are baptized we are gifted with the Holy Spirit and we are to follow the Holy Spirit. We must confess and pray for forgiveness of sins after and must try harder and harder not to sin. When we willingly sin and do not ask for forgiveness the Holy Spirit leaves because it can not dwell in an evil man. We must try to not lose the Holy Spirit least we lose our salvation. OSAS could work as long as we continue to follow the Holy Spirit and when we fall pray for forgiveness and guidance and get right back up again. Yes salvation is a gift but if you are ungrateful and give the gift back you must pray to have it back again....It's not a forced gift. Anyway getting off the subject so I'll close.
Love and God Bless

"No, no, no. The mystery is how that Christ could be one of us and at the same time be without sin. Our natures prompt us to sin. How could Jesus have a nature like that?"

Christ did not have a sin nature. He had no original sin. So He was never totally depraved.

Like I said, he made the choice adam did not. That is how he is like us. He is faced with the same choices, yet choose obedience instead of being selfish. Christ therefore had no sin nature by birth and by choice.

Mr BlackHawk, I have to disagree with your statement brother, I used to believe this for a long time also and wheather you realize it or not, your not giving a good description of who Christ really is when you say He was sinless! Please allow me to ask you some questions....
Was it impossible that Jesus could sin? Or, but because of how he lived his life, was it improbable that he would have sinned, though there was the possibility he could have?
If it was impossible for Jesus to have sinned, what value was the temptation? How could he be tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15)?
Did Jesus have such a different nature, that he was, essentially, not human? That’s really what the question gets down to! Philippians 2:5-8
If I told you an object was 100% fireproof would you try to burn it up knowing it would be 100% impossible to burn?
You would only put it to the test if it had the possibility of being burned up. Ponder some of these questions if you will and give it some thought.

Hebrews 4:

"14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,[1] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin . 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

It's not a question.

Peace to all who seek it,

Jesus was SANCTIFIED by the Father (John 10:36). That's the reason why apostle Paul wrote that Jesus is a MAN who knew no sin (2 Cor. 5:21).

right, but he is not JUST a man, but God also.

Jesus was made like Adam was. Totally sinless so that he might make the choice Adam did not. he choose God instead of sin and himself. That's the point. He was like us in that he faced every sin, not like us in out sinful nature.

I'm glad you agree. But please show me the verses that "CLEARLY" say that Jesus is ALSO God IN ADDITION to the FATHER whom Jesus SAYS is the ONLY true God (John 17:3).

If I told you that the map of the United States "CLEARLY" shows that Texas is in the northeast, would I believe you if you don't show me the map? And if you showd me an UPSIDE down map that shows Texas on top, SHOULD I believe you? C'mmon Louis, quit defending a FALSE doctrine already!

Please show us Biblical poof - not your opinion - that Jesus is NOT like us in our sinful nature.

Consider this my friend. Jesus said he was SANCTIFIED or PURIFIED by God the FATHER. If he had no sin, why did God HAVE to SANCTIFY or PURIFY him?

Common sense dictates that nobody washes CLEAN laundry. That would be foolishness. Do you think God is foolish to SANCTIFY or PURIFY someone He KNOWS doesn't have sin? Or do you THINK God did Not know that Jesus was SINLESS? Or perhaps Jesus LIED when he said he was SANCTIFIED by God?

What do you really THINK my friend?

Ed

*chuckles* hmm..you're the one with the false docterine ed. In addition to this you believe that someone has to drive from where ever they are to go to your church to be saved. I've dealt with you for a long time ed. you're a false teacher pure and simple.

"hat Jesus is NOT like us in our sinful nature. "

well if you think God has a sinful nature..it says that Christ, who being in the very nature of God....Phil 2:5-8 Also shows that Christ is God in thoses verses...

"Jesus said he was SANCTIFIED or PURIFIED by God the FATHER. If he had no sin, why did God HAVE to SANCTIFY or PURIFY him? "

okay, start a thread and we can discuss this. I'd say you're missing as always context.
