First Katrina, Then Rita now Wilma. What is up with all these monster female storms?

Last I heard from the news, Wilma has upgraded to a Category 4 and will be heading to Florida this weekend. BTW, because of all the hurricanes we had this year, the weather service has run out of names for the hurricanes. Wilma was the last name on the list for this year.

I know, it's pretty sad isn't it? Every day I pray for all those brave good people who are going through these terrible hurricanes.

Not all the names are female. Remember "Hurricane Andrew" that happened in the early 90's?

Because they ran out of male names.

By the way, how bad is this going to be for Florida?

From what I heard, they don't think that it will be able to sustain it's force long, but this still looks like a big storm. Said it is due to reach Florida or the Florida Keys, late Saturday.

The smaller the eye the worse the storm. If you have a small and well defined eye, you have a lot of energy being generated.

Just because it will be a Cat 3 or less when it hits Florida doesn't mean every thing is honkey dorey. By Friday, it's going to slam into the Yucatan pennisula and Cuba. Those people need our prayers just as much as the Floridians who MIGHT be affected.

Just got back from a grocery store on the east coast where the eye is predicted to pass over as as CAT 1. Bottled water is going fast and will be gone in a few hours. Granola bars and soup are being scooped up. Assume more trucks are on the way. The west coast must be in full preparedness mode. If anyone has relatives here, be assured Florida is not Louisiana. We got hit by a CAT 2 and a CAT 3 last year and I have nothing but praise for the Red Cross, police, paramedics, nurses and church groups which got people to shelters and saw they were safe once there. Another suggestion if family members are here: forget the cable channels. Find a local TV station in Florida on the net. On the east coast, WPBF is excellent. No hype. No scare mongering.

I have a feeling there will be less damage than Rita.....and that was minimal....

I tell ya... these storms are amazing. Certainly dangerous and powerful, but intrigueing none the less.

Lets hope so. Category 5 isn't anything to play with though.
