Hey guys! Now, I don't even know why this has come up suddenly, but it has (essentially, it's for His glory)... and well... I dunno.. I need to get back on fire for God. I have been way too focused on doctrinal issues that I have become so intwined into it that I have been ignoring the maker of the Truths about Grace, Jesus Christ.

Any suggestions as to how I can... say... rejuvenate my spiritual life, God willing?

Begin a personal Bible study. I'd choose a book of the Bible, I have been returning to 1 John for example, and go verse by verse, contemplating what you read. Don't just read a chapter and think about it for a moment. Try to come to a conclusion for every statement. Pray as you go and ask the Lord to bend your will to His will, or rather ask Him to straighten your will to His standard.

How do you know about Truth and Grace apart from doctrine?

If you want to "get back on fire for God," then continue to study his word. Revivals, seminars, etc., provide only fleeting, temporary emotional encouragement. Continue to pray, read the Bible, hold fellowship with believers and do everything for the glory of God. How you "feel" about your walk is really inconsequential. Honestly, I haven't felt excited about my walk in a long time. But I don't allow my fallible human emotions to influence my attitude toward God. Instead, I base my thoughts and deeds on Holy Scripture. If God is willing that I should be emotionally charged about his word, then I will be, but it is never safe to base your walk on the amount of "fire" you have for God. Your fire is gauged on your obedience to the precepts of the Lord.

This isn't a dig, it is an exortation to not look to temporal affirmations of your faith. God is a spirit and we worship him in spirit. Human emotions do not reflect a greater level of "passion" in our worship. The sombre, stoic prayers of a monotone-voiced preacher are every bit as worshipful as the firey, charismatic prayers of an over-excited revival evangelist. God does not gauge our faith on our "passion." Our faith is a gift of God who is without passions. Therefore, we should not seek to mix temporal emotion with spiritual worship. These two do not correspond at any point.

Soli Deo Gloria
