Mandy, Just so I'm clear, do you believe Jesus was raised in a "glorified body" or did it receive glorification sometime after that?

MANDY SAID:
No we will not be raise in physical bodies like the ones we have now. We will be raised in glory!

Why the need for a resurrection at all. Why didn't Paul just simply state that we will shed our bodies? Because our physical bodies that die are like a seed.

Speaking of individual saints, Paul does say we shed our mortal bodies. In fact, sowing that seed that a new body may be given is a mandatory prerequisite for being clothed with the Heavenly, immortal body (speaking of individual saints, that is).

1 Corinthians 15:35--38
But some will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool! That which thou sowest is not made alive, UNLESS IT DIE:

And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be , but some bare grain... But God giveth it a body

This passage, along with 2 Cor 5:1-2, so clearly shows that our second body ("house", "tabernacle") is a building "FROM GOD and ETERNAL IN THE HEAVENS. How the saints are raised is tied to the sowing of the natural body and receiving the heavenly spiritual body that God gives in Heaven. Remember, thou sowest not that body that shall be.

Paul's View on Resurrection of the Dead

A great many Christians get off on the wrong foot by PRESUPPOSING that the bible teaches Resurrection of the Dead would be something tied to the "end of the NEW covenant age." For certain, the bible explicitly teaches there is no end to the New Covenant Age (Eph 3:21; Heb 13:20), and Paul's teaching in 1 Cor 15:55-56 shows how Resurrection of the Dead saints out of Hades is tied TO THE END OF THE OLD COVENANT AGE. Paul indicates this, saying:

1 Cor 15:54-56
"then shall be brought to pass the word that hath been written, 'The Death was swallowed up -- to victory; Where, O Death, is thy sting? Where, O Hades is thy victory?' And the sting of the death is sin, AND THE POWER OF SIN IS THE LAW

This simple passage, which all agree is the victory slogan at the time of the Resurrection of the Dead, clearly teaches that the victory over death came at the close of the MOSAIC LAW AGE, not some close of the New Covenant Age (again, there is no end of the New Covenant Age). It was sin and the Law of Moses which empowered sin that kept the dead from being released from Hades and taken to Heaven.

Finally, if one should deny that 1 Cor 15:54-56 is fulfilled then they MUST become Roman Catholic on the doctrine of Purgatory, for the Hades of 1 Cor 15:55-56 does not become part of Hell until Revelation 20:12-15! For futurists, this means Hades ("Sheol" in hebrew and "Purgatorio" in Latin) is still in existence exactly as the Catholic Church teaches.

Where do I sign up? Maybe I am more Catholic than I thought.

I think the Catholics say that some of Revelation has been fullfilled, I'm not too sure about that tho.

KC, Wols, VOW, are ya listening?

I think the Catholic view is that they are in the Millenium on the eschatological timeline. Their views are sort of like partial-preterism. I believe they view the Tribulation, Beast, Anti-Christ, etc., to be in the past. But you'd have to check with them to be sure.

In Christ,

Here is a post from Wolseley:
----------------------------------------
The Catholic Church is amillennial, meaning we take Daniel and Revelation symbolically, for the most part. We believe that we are in the 1,000 years right now---it is symbolic for the age of the Church on earth.

The Rapture and the Lord's return we take as happening simultaneously; and we view the Battle of Armageddon as symbolic for God's final triumph over the devil at the end of time.

For an in-depth explanation of Catholic eschatology, I recommend The Rapture Trap, by Paul Thigpen, Ph.D., put out by Ascension Press, ISBN 0-9659228-2-0.
----------------------------------

"partial preterism" doesn't really seem to make sense, I would just call this the Catholic eschatological viewpoint.

Catholics are partial preterists. First, they are Amillennial, meaning they deny a LITERAL 1000 years period (same as full preterists).

Next, they typically interpret the Olivet Discourse as mostly or all fulfilled by the fall of Jerusalem and see Revelation Chapters 1-19 as fulfilled in the 1st century. Parts of Rev 20-22 are viewed as complete and parts are awaiting a final wrap up a long way into the future.

I highly recommend Scott Hahn's 11 tape series on the Catholic view of The End.

Finally, Auntie, I might point out that if you become Catholic you will likely become a strong partial preterist and still will have to deal with Paul's theology of Resurrection where he reckons the victory of Resurrection as tied to the end of the Mosaic Covenant Age and NOT Christ's Covenant Age.

Paul clearly sees the victory of resurrection coming at the end of the Old Testamental period, which is why he believed that his generation would live until that event (Paul says "WE who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord... -- 1 Thess 4:15) and proclaims it was ABOUT TO happen in Acts:

Acts 24:15
"there is ABOUT TO BE a rising again of the dead, both of righteous and unrighteous"

Acts 17:31
because He did set a day in which He is ABOUT TO judge the world in righteousness

2 Timothy 4:1
I do fully testify, then, before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who IS ABOUT TO JUDGE the living and dead at his manifestation

Paul does NOT believe those events were thousands of years into the future, but rather were to transpire with the passing away of the Old Covenant universe in his own generation.
