Not everyone who takes the flood account literally believes in a global flood. Some will posit that the flood was local and that interpretation is consistent with the Biblical description. Proponents of this view would say koala bears were not on the ark. Just some localized animals.

Genesis 7:23
"And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark."

This account seems pretty clear, "every living substance" is a very broad description. One must ask, what about all the plants as well as indigenous animal species around the world.

In the whole account, it specifies that the death was every living thing that had breath in it's nostrils. Creationists make a big deal about this, as it is a looophole for plants, insects and anything else without a nostril. Personally, i think that as a rationalization, it blows.

Blows? Nostril? Never mind, it was funnier in my head.

It was more than a few who had sinned. According to the bible, the cries of the earth had reached up into heaven, and God, looking down, was regretful that he had created man. Because >man had sinned greatly: man/women/animals/ were unclean and wickedness was <everywhere>. God then had decided to rid the earth, but saved Noah and his family because he found them worthy in his eyes.
(BTW I think the Koala bears were sleeping)

Local flood proponentss have answers to all the allegedly, universal descriptions of the flood. If anyone wants to see them all they have to do is do a search on the local flood view. You'll find them. Unless someone here wants to defend the view.

or Go to reasons.org --> to resources section --> books by ross ---> genesis question --> flood chapter

It offers a brief intro. I

Well... I suppose if you insist on an athiest attempting to make a Godly decision, we should examine the context of the decision.

Genesis 6:11-13
"The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth."

The reference discusses corruption and violence. One could read from this and surmise that God's initial attempt at creating humans was imperfect and initiated the Godly "undo." Since I don't agree with the action, I can't say I would do the same. One should take responsibility for one's mistakes.

Greetings All,

The heading of this thread is neat but I have no idea what it refers to. Is there a perceived problem with having koala bears and the flood?

On other matters:

-About man being an imperfect creation: Maybe we were perfectly designed with a flaw on purpose (after all, today we have the ability to make cars that last forever and yet we don't build them that way). God gaves us free will but also gave us rules to follow. We have the ability to not follow those rules with consequences attached.

-"And no, even in that case. Why kill everyone for the "sins" of a few?"
(Maybe someone could explain how to put quotes from other posts in my posts properly as all I know is copy and paste)

By killing everyone but Noah and his family, God shows that we are our brothers keepers. What people do around us can affect us. We should try to make sure that those around us sin as little as possible. What is that old line? "Evil wins when good men sit and do nothing." We need to be involved in the world around us.

Well... one must ask how the plants, salt-water fish, and coral were able to survive?
That's silly. Not all of the "floodwaters" came from rain. The Bible says, "The fountains of the great deep burst open". The floodwaters were most probably, saline. The plants survived by seeds, bulbs, floaters, etc. If God gathered the animals, He is certainly capable of protecting the plants also.

I too don't understand the question of "marsupials". Why couldn't God simply gather them, too? Koalas aren't very fast---perhaps they hitched a ride on a GREYHOUND??? (that was a JOKE, people...)

Now, there is a very weird theory about the whole "flood-thing". Check out the prior chapter, Gen6, verse 4. Is it possible, just possible---that there were demons capable of reproducing with Humans---and this gave rise to legends like Hercules, Zena (uhm, well, she was on TV...)? Maybe the Earth was evil, AND genetically corrupt? Except for Noah?

BUT---the really BIG question, is "what kind of helpers did God send for Noah's journey?"

Why, ARK-ANGELS of COURSE!

(Ben runs for his life before the eggs & rotten tomaters can fly...)

No it's not. Coral can only survive in shallow salt water, and the oldest reef, the Great Barrier Reef, is much older than the supposed flood.

Another question... how was Noah able to build the largest wooden boat ever (and ever since) without modern shipwright skills or even nails?

Did you really wanna post this, or did the devil make you do it?

If so, maybe you should have floated the idea around your home before posting it. You wanna be careful about barge-ing into a discussion of the Ark. You could cause a big row. People will be lining up in pairs to refute your arguments. Then they'll sail you down the river.

----------------------
And if the flood waters were saline, what did they drink on the ark? The rain only lasted for 40 days, and animals really go thru some water.
