If you're talking about doing this yourself, at home, I'd recommend calling the 1-800 phone number of the hair color company and asking their advice - they can let you know if there's any potential problems. It helps if you know exactly what dyes and bleaches you've used on your hair in the past - not all dyes are compatible, and apparently some combinations can cause your hair to 'fry'.

Good luck!

Hmmm depending on several factors, you'll end up with brownie highlights. Lots of gals come into the salon that've dyed dark colours over their blonde bits, and it's faded to a obvious uneven meshie-black-brown colour. :( Depending on the brand you use, how blonde your hightlights are, how thick the highlights are (Eg: are they woven, quarter head, half head etc?) how frequently you dye you hair, etc, will depend on how light they will come through. If you've bleached them a concentrated blonde (say with a 40 bleach), they will likely come through as brown clumps giving the uneven look, if they're a weaker/softer blondie brown, you've got a better chance at covering them. :)

If you had it done at the hair dressers, ask about the effects of going black. :) They'd be able to tell you just by checking your record of what you had done, what it would look like.
