KEY 1 - UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE A PURPOSE.
You are not here by mistake. You are unique and special and have a specific purpose for which you are here. God has a plan for you, which He is working out.
Joshua 1:9 'Yes, be bold and strong! Banish fear and doubt! For remember, the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.'
God's purpose for us, is the best thing for us. We need to understand that each of us have our own special purpose in God. If we can understand that we have a God-given purpose and that God will not leave us and that God has an overall plan, which He is gradually working out, then we will have discovered the first key to living a successful Christian life. Joshua 23:14 'For He performs what is appointed for me, and many such things are with Him.'
KEY 2 - STAY AWAY FROM SIN
This is an important key. Sin always stops us from receiving what God has for us. Sin is like a block or a brake that always holds us back and trips us up.
Hebrews 12:1 'Since we have such a huge crowd of men of faith watching us from the grandstands, let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up; and let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us.'
John 8:11 'Go and sin no more.' Stay away from sin. Run and flee from things that could trip you up.
KEY 3 - FAITH IN THE PROMISES OF GOD
Here is another key to success in our Christian lives. In order that we can be successful in our Christian lives we need to have faith in the promises of God.
Joshua 1:3 'I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.' Joshua had to trust the promises of God as He took the nation of Israel into the Promised Land. We need to also trust what God has said and promised us. Keep on trusting God. Don't allow despair and discouragement to hound you. If we fail to trust what God has said and promised, what have we got? Keep on trusting God.
KEY 4 - GO FOR THE PRESENCE OF GOD.
We need the presence of God in every aspect of our lives.
Joshua 1:5As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you
As God's presence went with the men of old, so God's presence can be with us.
Joshua 1:9 'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.'
Exodus 33:14 And the Lord replied,I myself will go with you and give you success 'My Presence will go with you' NKJV
We need the presence of God in our lives as a reality if we are going to be successful in our Christian lives.
KEY 5 - ENJOY THE WORD OF GOD.
The Bible can be a source of great joy and encouragement.
Joshua 1:8 'Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.'
Develop a love for the Bible and the word of God. Find time to meditate on the things that God has given us in this way.
Romans 10:17 'So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.'
As we are exposed to God's word -faith is generated in us. We need this faith to live a successful Christian life.
KEY 6 - BE LEAD BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
