The AramaicNT.org Public Beta has been up for a while now, and I will soon be updating it with a new interface.

The FlashDEX is a web-based program for online learning of the Aramaic language. It teaches vocabulary, grammar, and even translation through a system based off of flash cards. The word, phrase, or grammatical structure is presented, and the user is asked to identify it. Clicking on an "Answer" button, the answer is revealed, and the user can record whether or not they knew it correctly. Each user will have a personal login, as the program keeps track of your progress in two ways. Your overall progress is logged for each lesson you undertake, and you will have the option to view your global progress on each word you've been exposed to.

At the user's option, one can view only words that need to be worked on, creating dynamic vocabulary sheets and lessons to strengthen the user's weak vocabulary, lowering the frequency of words that they already know. Additionally, lessons can be combined, allowing for a mix of whatever testing is wanted. For example, you can intermingle vocabulary from the Gospel of Mark with the Alphabet, and random sentences to translate.

The FlashDEX is also designed to, in the future, accommodate the learning of Aramaic in other languages. Each lesson, in XML format, can be localized with a simple addition of new definition tags in each lesson entry. One may want to learn Aramaic in English, but (provided the lesson is localized) one could just as easily switch over to French or Spanish.

There is a grading system, and lessons have a set of criteria based upon percentage scores and number of recorded answers to determine a "passing" or "failing" grade, always keeping the user's cumulative performance in mind. In the future, AramaicNT.org plans to offer Certificates of Achievement for those who pass certain lessons with high scores as a form of encouragement, motivation, and method of goal-making.

The basic program will be free of charge and include many lessons (more than enough to build a sizeable Biblical vocabulary), but more advanced lessons, due to the time and effort that is required to create them, will be available for a small fee. All proceeds will go to the furthering of the Aramaic language.
