I don't think any of this is really going to help this poor girl out. She asked what She should do, not what you think of the band; what She should do in Her best interest. She came to a board politely and only a few people replied to help, it grew into a debate over Christian Censorship rather than the aiding of another person. Whatever happened to helping your fellow man? I'm disappointed. If anything you should reply to her and apologize.

Well, then I'll give it a crack.

Dear Original Poster:

You're 17 years old. I take it, according to your age, that you are employed. In that case, your parents can't really complain TOO much about what you spend your money on, since you've earned it yourself. Take some of said earnings, go out, buy whatever cd's you want to for your friend, and let that be the end of it. Why involve your parents at all in the first place? It's not for you, and it won't be staying in your house, so what does it matter what they think. It's a gift for another person, and Rule #1 regarding the purchase of a gift for another person is that you get them something they'll enjoy, which, while puzzling, sounds like the end result of you getting your friend Lincoln Park cds. So quit asking, don't involve M&D, and just go do it.

yes, but one person already said not to have her parents involved and just do whatever. If we all kept saying that then it'd just be the same thing over and over in different words.
since a common answer as been found, people naturally move on to other topics. That simple.

Besides, when you mention your dad is against even stuff like LP its bound to conjure up arguments and stipulations, so you have to expect people to react to that before the question at hand.

I would just go out and buy it, but their first 2 c.d.s are very hard to find. I thought my dad would be nice and help me get it off ebay since i dont have a credit card. But insted he got very angry with me. I told him they were a clean band but he didnt listen....I just need to prove it to him by showing him some lyrics i geuss.
or I can all ways wait...I'll be 18 soon and then I'll do whatever I want.

I find this statement to be wrong. I'm sorry, but it is refreshing to see a teen actually honoring her dad's wishes, even if she does not really agree with them. The Bible tells us to honor our parents, period. Thanks to the original poster that had enough integrity to ask an honest question. Show their review at pluggedinonline.com to your dad. Then do what he says. That's the Godly thing to do.

I could express my opinion on Linkin Park here by saying I think that everyone older than 15 who likes them has a complete lack of taste and I that hope that all Linkin Park members suffer a horrible death for releasing such pure **** onto this earth under the label of music, but I won't. Excuse my praeteritio. If I were you I'd give him one of those cd-bills (I have no clue what you call them in English), that he could buy a cd with. If you mention where he should be able to get the album, he should have no problem getting it. I don't think it's as cool as giving him the real albums, but it's they only option I can see when you do not want to buy it over your father's back, and you don't want to give him cash either. I don't think I could live with a father like yours, but that's another topic about which I can only say that a rebelling teen is completely natural and even encouragable.

Linkin park have nothing bad about them at all!! they dont swear, they dont talk about drugs, sex, violence. Mainly human emotions to do with love and sorrow. whats wrong with tht!!! and as for the music, they tunes are awesome, they're talented and enjoyable to listen to!!!

Whether or not you could live with her dad is not the point. This is a Christian forum, and therefore we should be giving Godly advice. Rebellion is NOT natural, and shoud never be encouraged. She should listen to her dad. I'm sure he has a reason for his convictions. Just because someone makes a stand against something does not make them an idiot. It takes courage.

i dont see how liking linkin park is rebelling. they're just a rock band. u even get pop bands tht go on about worse stuff thn LP. music ment for young teens sometimes contain lines like "i wanna get with u" "touch my fire" n who knos what else. The worst music probably is rap because of the content and bands like slayer who are openly anti christ. For all u kno linkin park could be christians, there has been rumours of it.

Linkin Park is completely clean in their two albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora. I can't say quite the same for the Jay-Z Collision Course cd though. But Linkin park themselves is a very clean band, and I see no problem with listening to their music.

Well, that can be argued, it is widely claimed that the rebelling stage or puberal behavior is a path to maturity. I'm not saying her dad is an idiot, he is completely right for LP's music is completely tasteless. I think it's idiotic to try to force your musical preferences onto upir kids though, promoting something you like yourself is ok, but to prohibit the rest?:confused:

No one said that;), just that ignoring the will of your parents is rebelling. And they are not a rock band:), they are a nu-metal band (forgive me if some take offence in the word nu-metal, it's not meant).

Christian music has a tough time surviving the music industry. So, there's a lot of Christian bands out there that will not label themselves or won't bluntly quote scripture; forcing you to read between the lyrics. Linkin Park is one of them along with Evanescence. I'd suggest downloading the lyrics and show your father the lyrics.

To the OP. As I see it you've got three choices:

1. Do what your father says, and don't buy him the CD.

2. Go out and buy the CD; your an adult and its your money.

3. Sit down with him and show him the lyrics, ask why the lyrics are wrong and in what way.

You seemed to be leaning towards number 3 more. You father seems conviced that anything non christian is evil, so getting him to change his mind would be a challenge. Some people will change their mind when presented with logical eveidence, some will react emotionally and get angry at you for trying to alter their perception of reality. From what you've written I think he is more of the latter.

I think you should try to convice him, but if you can't IMHO I believe you should just go out and buy the CD; It's your money.

On annother note, Linkin Park is a love/hate thing, you love them or hate them. If you hate them, dandy, I probably hate alot of the music you love. But Im not going to ruin that music for you by sloshing threads about it with "THEY SUCK THEY SUCK!" If you hate them that much, why do you give a flying frog fart about them enough to "warn" people that they suck? Your putting a substantial ammount of juice into something you have a disdain for.

If we set aside LP quality of music cause that is subjective and get down to what I think is the bigger issue. Is secular music appropriate?

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Some stuff is obviously not helpful for you. They endorse a lifestyle that conflicts with the way we should live as God fearing men and women. It pollutes are mind, seeps into our thinking, colours our perspective and makes us dwell on things we shouldn't be dwelling on.

Some stuff is good. There are songs out there that ask questions everyone is asking, christian or non. They vocalize emotions we all go through and can play like a musical narrative for that period in our life. The composition notes and lyrics works so well, as if we could see the finger prints of God's creativity in them.

I don't think living in a christian bubble is healthy. We are to live in the world and not apart of the world and so it leaves is up to your ability to discern.
