let's see, at 9:45 that morning i was leaving the dentist office, driving the 15 minutes to school (i have no radio in my car), arrived at school and checked in. i was walking to the last 5 minutes or so of chemistry. the bell rang and sometime between class changes i heard. from my french teacher actually. it was chaotic. i was stunned, but left in ignorance because my school cut the cable to the classrooms and refused to tell us what was going on. grrr.... i live in a town where most of the population is pilots (my dad included) and they (the school) wouldn't tell us what was happening. rumors flying around like you wouldn't believe. :( i'm still in shock. i'm also mad at my school for handling it so badly. :sigh:

I was at work. At the time I worked for the electric company in a large call center. Someone had the radio on and mentioned that a plane crashed into the World Trade Center.

My first thought was terrorism. The calls stopped coming in which was strange so I knew that something big had happened. About 10:15 my supervisor start coming around telling everyone what was happening and said we could all go into the conference room and watch the news on a big screen tv if we wanted.

I was gathered in a room with about 200 other people in utter shock at what was happening. A few hours later we had extra security show up and were told that we were under tight security because this was a major electric company.

When it was time to go home I remember driving up to my house and saw that my husband had placed our flag outside and just broke down crying.

Will never forget that day. I am sure none of us will.

I was in bed and my Mum told me what had happend and I thought she was surely wrong about who had done it and why.I watched tv all day, but it didn't hit me till early afternoon when they talked about this girl whose whole family had died with her on a plane. It was awful, I cried. Somethings just bring it all back. I was watching an episode of 7th Heaven and that did a song by Alan Jackson brings it back. And I still get the chills. Before we know it' its going to be a year.

I had a plane that was supposed to leave Sept. 12 for Japan. But I was sleeping in bed and then my mom called me from work and said that I should tune into the news because it looked like some planes had hit the WTC. I watched the news for the next four hours or so in shock. (and my plane ended up leaving the 19th instead)

I was at a woman conference when I received a news breaker on my cell phone. After the third one I phoned my daughter asking what is going on. I phoned then a lady who I know in Indianapolis whose son worked for the army.
We stopped the conference and everybody started to intercede for the people of America who were affected by this terrorist attack.

I had a booking to fly to Atlanta the 19th September and thought that every thing was cancelled. I did not prepare to go anymore and early the morning they phoned me and said that I will still fly as schedule. I saw from the airplane the tragic spot where the Twin Towers used to be.

I was amazed by all the flags in the country and how the American people turned towards God for support.

I too, will never forget – I do have respect and trust in your President.

I was sleeping, and my husband's sister who lives in South Carolina, called at like 6:40am and said what had happened, we were both in shock! And then when that 2nd plane hit, OM'GOSH..
I had a physical therapy appointment to work on my broken leg, and I almost cancelled so I could stay glued to the T.V. How very sad :(

I was at home...without the TV on...getting ready for class. I got into the car around 11am and my radio was playing news. I thought I had left the AM radio station on the night before because they had an interesting news clip on. But then checked to see what station was on...and it was my local "oldies" station. So I'm driving out of my driveway and the announcer says something about planes crashing into the towers and I was like "WHAT????????"

I thought we were under attack...like war or something. With bombers and stuff. I mean, I wasn't that far from the city! So I kept looking up at the sky on my way into class/work.

I got into work to drop off my stuff before class and people at work were talking about the 4 planes. I went to class, where we kinda sat in silence for awhile. With all that was going on, it was almost comforting to just sit without having to say anything or have class.

Then I headed back to work, where a friend and I were glued to a computer looking up pictures on the web of what was going on in NYC. The crash itself...the damage...the people running away...the people leaving.

I think mostly of what's gone now. I have some really great pictures I've taken over time of the towers and some great shots from the observation deck of one of them. And it's like...they're not there anymore. I haven't seen it for myself yet. I want to though, someday. Hopefully soon...but I gotta get myself down there.

My sister saw the Pentagon four months after the attacks on a Girl Scout trip to Washington, D.C. She said it looked awful and she cried.

I was at home, but I did not check any news until after 9.30. The Indianapolis Stars website (my morning paper) had said that one of the towers collapsed. I thought that someone had hacked the stars site, that's when I turned on the news on TV, just as the 2nd tower went down.

oncewaslost:
Yours wasn't the only school in a news blackout. I had a remote to do at a local high school with their TV class. The students that helped durring setup had heard what happened, but the cable was cut off in the school so it would not frighten them. We had cable on the truck, so we let them watch the news on the truck and that was the first time they had actually seen what happened, and this was about 4pm. I thought it seemed unfair to keep the kids in the dark like that.

I was in Italy...suppose to come howe on the 13th..well meedlass to say, I WAS stuck in Italy, no planes comin in for a while I was told...we (all the americans) were extremely frustrated! we just wanted to come back home...they had a special room set up for us at the airport, with phones and computers and a ton of free food, but none of that mattered...I still remember how good I felt to get home! I stepped off the plane and I had never seen so many American Flags in all my life!

i was at my neighbors, getting 2 kids off to school. we always watch the news in the morning, i did not know what to say to them. icalled their mom (since they had seen it happen) & she was alright with it (she was at work). i could hardly change the channel, but i did -- i could not stand to watch it & i had to take care of a 2 year old, too, all day. my dad came home early from work. my mom & i (& the little girl) went to lunch at the mall. then they closed the mall, and many of the restaurants -- credit cards were not going through, etc. we went to k-mart & bought flags for our cars.

meghan took her nap at my house instead of hers that day -- i couldnt stand to be alone at her house...

Oh it was so horrible! we just wanted to come home...all of the Italian people kept coming in to the room all the americans were put in and they kept telling us how sorry they were and so on, but we just wanted to be here and none of us could sleep. INITIALLY WE WERE TOLD AMERICA WAS UNDER ATTACK! so you can just imagine the feeling of helplessness. I was sitting next to some men that called the embassy, said "there are about 30 americans here at the airport and you better figure out how to get us home!!!!" he was screaming into the phone, I'll never forget that. we all took shots of tequila and played cards and prayed. It was a glorious day to get home, the first plane back was filled with only americans and we were shown news footage...the atrocities! great feeling to be home!

Because it happened at one thirty in the morning our time I didn't find out till 8.30 in the morning (our time) when my mum rang and got me out of bed and told me to turn on the tv because america had been attacked with bomber planes (of course she got it wrong and I thought the whole of america was being bombed). Then we sat in shock watching the tv for about 4 hours, it was not live, all reports, because by then everything had happened. then I had to go to the post office and stepped outside to a beautiful spring day, the sun was shining, it was so surreal, I saw my neighbour gardening and I said to her, 'how can you garden today?!'. It was so sad.

I had spend 2 months being in mozambique africa, totally away from every media, so hadnt heard of any news for 2 months. I came home sept 11. was at the airport in amsterdam around 9am, having flown for like 15 hours and not slept at all. There were some problems with my suitcase (just love airportstuff NOT) so it was like noon before i was home. took a long bath (after only having cold showers for 2 months that was a real blessing so i enjoyed it to the fullest) and around 3pm went to get my 8 yr old brother from school whom I missed terribly and who had missed me. When we got home the rest of the family was watching tv, cnn. we saw the planes hit the towers and then saw them comming down. it was very unreal. it was like a bad movie.
I had just gotten off a long flight. if i had come home a day later i was probably stuck somewhere in africa cuz they didnt allow any flights over the middle east.

It was just unreal. Here i was happy to fuinally see my family again and we had some catching up to do. I had been in africa on missiontrip. I found myself wishing I was still in africa away from all the news. My family continued to watch the news, but me and my kid bro went to my room and we watched cartoons together all night. My mind was full of all the emtions still of being back and missing africa i didnt wanna think of the mess in the world. Also being on the other side of the world and just seeing it on tv makes it like it is more away from you. This week we had a shocking thing happening in my country, with a populair politician being murdered. It shocked the whole nation. Now I understand a bit better what sept 11th must have felt like for an american.
I have a lot of american friends, was so glad to hear they were all ok.

These are some sobering stories.

I first heard the news that a plane had hit the WTC as I was lying in bed, kind of sleeping in. The kids were not up yet, so I was taking advantage of that free time. I decided to get up and turn on the tv and check it out. I thought it had just been a bad pilot error--then I saw that both towers had been hit, and I knew then it was an attack. I just could not believe how things just went from bad to worse to even worse to even more terrible. For the rest of the week I was kind of stunned. Then on Friday when they had that memorial service at the national catedral with Billy Graham speaking---I finally lost it.
