When you talk to God or engage in prayer, do you typically do it aloud or silent? I've noticed that almost everytime I find myself talking to God I'm doing it silently. I only remember a few times of actually speaking out loud. Is this okay? I don't remember ever reading whether you were supposed to do it one way or the other. I'm pretty sure God can still hear your prayers even though they are only being spoken in your head, right? :pray:

I've tried to submit this without luck a few times, so if you see the same thread elsewhere....OOOPS!!! :sorry:

heya, nope, i haven't seen this thread before.

i usually pray silently, it just seems weird to speak aloud, as if talking to myself (except for prayers in groups). Besides, it's easier to talk in your head, everything seems to flow nicely.

I do both.
It seems when I pray out loud, I can concentrate more (if that makes sense), but more times than not, I pray silently, and its not really even prayers sometimes, I find myself just "talking" to Him, like a friend..Oh how I love God! He is so Gracious :)

I pray both ways too.

When I'm drving in really bad conditions (like snow) I find praying outloud to keep me safe actually keeps me calmer then praying silently.

So that's when I pray aloud most...when there is snow, sleet, ice, flooded roads....it's really a calming presence.

Prayer is communicate with God; the interaction of our soul with God, not in thought or meditation, but in direct address to Him. Prayer may be spoken or prayed in thought, occasional or constant, or formal. It is a "beseeching the Lord" (Ex. 32:11); "pouring out the soul before the Lord" (1 Sam. 1:15); "praying and crying to heaven" (2 Chr. 32:20); "seeking unto God and making supplication" (Job 8:5); "drawing near to God" (Ps. 73:28); "bowing the knees" (Eph. 3:14).

>>When you talk to God or engage in prayer, do you typically do it aloud or silent?

I pretty much try to stick to the menu. That is I try to find out what it is God's will to give to me, than I ask for those things. Usually I do not use language, but thoughts or even just convay my feeling to Him.

That is why I would rather spend time with God than people. I can let Him know how I am feeling, without having to express myself. If I try to tell my wife how I am feeling about something, so much gets lost in trying to use language to express a feeling.

So, I just come before the throne of Grace and say God I am frustrated, lonely, hurting, or angry or whatever. Often He will come back with: That is not my will for you. These are the divine thoughts, attitudes and feeling I am wanting for you to have as a born again child of God.

Then the Holy Spirit can use the Blood of Jesus to cleanse us of all Ungodlyness, anything that is unlike God. He can then put His divine nature into us. So we have the same attitude Jesus had and the same divine thoughts that Jesus had when He walked here on planet earth. Thanks, JohnR7

Prayer is of different kinds, secret (Matt. 6:6); social (Matt. 18:20), as family prayers, and in social worship; and public, in the service of the sanctuary. Some people like to manipulate prayer with “we only have to pray in secret” It’s not true – If someone is sick we pray not in secret for them. (Intercession prayer is to be prayed in secret).
Christ set an example for us to pray for others. Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. We are commanded to intercede for other people; 1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

No rules are anywhere in Scripture laid down for the manner of prayer or the attitude to be assumed by the suppliant.
There is mention made of kneeling in prayer (1 Kings 8:54; 2 Chr. 6:13; Ps. 95:6; Isa. 45:23; Luke 22:41; Acts 7:60; 9:40; Eph. 3:14, etc.);

of bowing and falling face down (Gen. 24:26, 52; Ex. 4:31; 12:27; Matt. 26:39; Mark 14:35, etc.);

of spreading out the hands (1 Kings 8:22, 38, 54; Ps. 28:2; 63:4; 88:9; 1 Tim. 2:8, etc.);

and of standing (1 Sam. 1:26; 1 Kings 8:14, 55; 2 Chr. 20:9; Mark 11:25; Luke 18:11, 13).
