The same teaching we've had a along, Love your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind, and love you nieghbor as yourself.

I have to agree that we should love God with all our heart might mind and strength, and to love our neighbor as our self. Under which all other laws are defined.

I agree with what has already been posted, but I would also consider John 3:16 to be of great importance:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Hi there!

The doctrine of the deity of Christ is the greatest doctrine....

http://www.versebyverse.org/doctrine/deity-christ.html

After confirming who Jesus Christ is/was... the next greatest doctrine is the doctrine of salvation.

http://www.versebyverse.org/doctrine/salv.html

therefore, identifying what Jesus Christ did/will do for you.

Any other doctrine is secondary to knowing who Jesus Christ is/was and what Jesus Christ did/will do for you.

I agree with Serapha and Skylark that the doctrines of Christ's deity and salvation are the greatest teachings we have as a result of His life and death and resurrection. I believe that fairly close behind those is His teachings about the kingdom/Zion.

Putting things in their perspective and proper relationship, I have to agree with jf3786 and Fatboys. The apostle in Hebrews was trying to expound on Christ and salvation, but stopped short in his efforts, seeing that his words were falling on deaf ears. He explained to these Christian teachers with deaf ears how to unstop their ears. He told them to go back to the basics, which I believe includes loving God with all our heart, and to love our neighbor. If we don't have the basics right, then we can forget about anything greater, because we will not understand it.

And that is the beauty of Jesus and His mission... there is nothing greater. There is nothing else to understand. Jesus accomplished what He set out to do: establish the Kingdom in our hearts. He did not give beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons. He gave the lesson and that is all there is.

Let the children go to Him. Faith like a child. More "understanding" might just push us further from Him. After all, what's so hard to understand about love.....

What is hard is how not to love self, but how to love others. But with practice (the works Jesus gave) it becomes easier and easier.

But you cut my paragraph in half, and didn't respond to the part that negates your statement.

Speaking about Jesus, the apostle had to stop short.
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

(Hebrews 5:10 - 14)

How can you say "He did not give beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons."?
