Let me preface by saying that I don't believe God wants us to seek His wonders, but to seek His face and a deeper intimacy with Him above everything.

Having said that, has anyone read "The God Chasers"? The only part I've read was one brought to my attention by a friend - The part where, according to the author, God showed up in a POWERFUL way (to say the least) at one of the church assemblies at the church he is a member of.

Does anyone have any stories of worship assemblies where God (the Holy Spirit) showed up in a powerful way?

I haven't yet read this book but I've heard a lot of good things about it so I'll have to as soon as this craziness we call school is done (1 week left!).

As far as God's Wonders go... the first thought that came to my mind was from about two years ago. For a couple months at the beginning of the 2nd semester of my freshman year of college I had gotten extremely involved in the drinking scene at school and, needless to say, had fallen far far away from God. I did still go to the Intervarsity meetings every week but it didn't mean much to me. Well, a friend knew that I hadn't been doing well with God and basically forced me to go to the Spring IV weedend retreat down near Kenosha. So I went but wasn't all that excited about it. I really was just mad that I was going to me missing a major house party that I had been invited to. So we checked in and got all set in our cabins and the first thing we did that night was everyone (all 600 of us) congregated in the main auditorium for a time of worship and general announcements. So we got in there and they started the first worship song and I was still just not happy about being there. Well, then the 2nd songs started... I can remember it was "Prince of Peace". As soon as it got to the middle part (where the guys and girls sing seperate parts) I immediately became numb and had to sit down because I would have collapsed. I just sat there and began balling because it was entirely God. He had basically forced His way back into me and not just into my heart but into my entire body. It was the most amazing feeling I've ever felt. As the song was nearing the end I finally got enough composure back to stand up and for the rest of the weekend I was just living in complete awe of God. It was just an amazing feeling... knowing God had decided, "okay, Ben, you're mine now."

Yeah, so maybe that's not what you were looking for but that's the first thing that came into my head :). Goodnight...
Ben

Awesome mo5quito, PTL :D

I love hearing of how God is working :D
I havent read that book, am reading another awesome book at the moment tho 'fear of the Lord' by john bevere. It talks about how we have to fear the Lord, not be afraid but to have an aditude of respect and awe. Sure He is our friend but also Almighty God. I am enjoying it :D

I was at a soul survivor youth conferece in my country last week. 3000 young people were there. it was awesome to be with so many people and praising God. In the morning and evenings there were services and in afternoons there were seminars wich went deeper into different subjects so you could choose what had your interest. I was so blessed that week. God was so there :) One night 30 came forward to get saved, everyone just went wild out of happiness, clapping shouting etc. Heaven had his party but so did we :)
The worship was so special at the conference. one of the worshipleaders was Tim Hughes from UK (he wrote the song here I am to worship). Everyone was so focussed on spending time with God in worship. We would just not stop. the worshipteam would leave the stage but we would just continue. Lol the main speaker (mike pilavachi from UK) would say we have a 'problem' here. But i think every pastor would be willing to have this problem in its church instead of others.....people who wont stop worshipping....
Lifes were touched, turned back to God, people were healed fisical and emotional......God did so much, it was great!!

Actually Mo5quito, these are EXACTLY the kind of stories I was fishing for. I LOVE hearing about lives God has changed...He changed mine too.

About 2 1/2 years ago, I went to a Promise Keepers convention. I had grown up in the church and had a good "head" knowledge of Christianity but no REAL "heart" knowledge. Things had been pretty bad in my life and my marriage pretty rocky. I had been to Promise Keepers before, but this one was different (the conference wasn't different necessarily, but I think my heart was different - in despair).

I don't remember what the preacher was preaching about but I remember him telling us (paraphrased) to lift our hands to God as high as we could in complete surrender and repentance. I lifted my hands as high as I could feeling a deep sorrow for my sin and a deep DEEP desire for God to change me. I was crying uncontrollably and it was as if God's presence literally flooded into me. I could feel his arms around me. My life has never been the same.

Yes, I have been tested, have had ups and downs and am actually not doing very well right now in a current period of testing - but I can feel the Holy Spirit prodding me and pulling me, trying to get me to carry on. I know God is trying to strengthen me and I know He will never let me go. He never has.

I thank you for your testimonies and would ask anyone else who would like to contribute to do so. They are a source of strength for me and I'm sure for others who read them...:)

Hi Josiah,
the promise keepers sounds great! I would like to read that book you mentioned as well! My life was changed when I was 19, as a result of a car accident, and now I am a completely different person (I am 31). I guess it took me to die for me to live...
love and blessings to you Josiah and good thread!

Tonight...I went to a "praise break." It's a service my college's praise band puts on towards the end of each semester, to give everyone a break from studying. And really, that was my main motivation for going - it was an excuse not to study for an hour. There were at the most, 50 people there. During the first few songs, I was just kind of singing along, having fun with my friends. After a while, we sat down for the message, and it really hit me hard. One of the things the guy talked about was how a lot of Christians have a really easy time loving others, but they have a hard time accepting God's and other people's love for them. That's me. All the time, I make myself think I'm not good enough for other people to love. Even though I know, I know, I know that God, my friends, my family...they love me, they're praying for me, they want me to be happy, etc...I push it away. I know it in my head, but the message doesn't always make it to my heart. Tonight it did. After the speaker, we sang "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" and the words of that song have never rung as true for me as they did tonight. I was in tears. And later on, during another song, I realized that God's been working on me all this semester (I've had a really rough few months...things just haven't been going well personally, I very well might fail a couple of classes, I've been way stressed out)...it's taken me a while, but I'm finally starting to realize He's what I need...He's the One who will always be there..."Draw me close to You, never let me go...You're all I want, You're all I ever needed...You're all I want, help me know You are near" It amazes me more than anything to know that no matter what I do, God's still right there, working on my heart...He loves me, He wants me near Him always...

Thank You Lord for Your neverending love!

I just want to thank all of you for your stories! They are all amazing :)
My friend and i were just discussing how God answers our prayers, and it was real interesting..
But one time at Church, about 2 months ago, we (my husband and I) were in a bible class of about 50 people or so, give or take, and we were doing praise and worship before the study, and I remember "Open my Heart" was a song we sang, and at one point one of the singers in the choir fell to her knees just sobbing, and I was already in tears, just from feeling the presence of the Lord, so strong, and I was singing and worshipping and had my eyes closed, and all of a sudden it felt like some one was 2 inches from my face, I literally felt like I would have been knocked over, and I just felt the Holy Spirit in me, that was the best feeling ever, and one of the best things is, we werent going to go that night, because we had been running around all day, and just wanted to go home and relax, and I just kept getting the voice and feeling in my head, that we needed to go, and now I always listen to that voice, because I know God is with me always :)

I believe that signs and wonders are for the unbeliever, the born again Christian walks by faith in the word of God.
I personally am very caution about signs and wonders in a church. I have heard that people get oil out of their hands, golden teeth in their mouth and all kinds of this stuff but when I measure it against Gods word I cannot found scripture for these types of things. However I have seen the spirit of God moving over a congregation many times.

Does anyone have any stories of worship assemblies where God (the Holy Spirit) showed up in a powerful way?

I remember a few years ago while in worship the Spirit of God came on us. The one lady went up front with a song the Holy Spirit gave her on that spot. While she songs the song everybody and there was about 1000 ladies was touched by the spirit of God. The song whet something like this – Sent your fire Lord to clean us oh God, we desire Your fire. There was a video recorded and on this video you can visibly see the anointing coming down on us, it was very visible, seems like a mist that moved in and swirled around over the people while all singing in tongues. After this many women clamed to be healed and some even testified that they where set free. Every time when I watch this video, a spirit of worship comes upon me. This happened at a women conference.
Ps. I did not read the book the God Chasers yet – I have it.

"Draw me close to You, never let me go...You're all I want, You're all I ever needed...You're all I want, help me know You are near"

Every time I hear that song, I get a lump in my throat (when I can keep from crying). It really speaks what's in my heart. I want so much to be near God and feel His presence but I do the STUPIDEST things that allienate me from Him...I always need Him to "let me know He is near". Thanks, AndiLynn for your words. May God bless you every day and draw you closer.

I agree with you completely Altya. I've never seen anything like that (gold teeth (?) etc.) but I do know that God definitely moves in our hearts and allows us to feel His presence when we seek him humbly and wholeheartedly! :)

Thanks guys! PLEASE keep 'em coming...what encouragement these testimonies give...
