Ok, so the Ugg boots are in great fashion, they were invented by Aussies. But now, they're under danger because some Loser American company saw huge market in it, and now claimed the name.

These Boots were invented by Aussies, and now it's being stolen by an overseas plageriser who doesn't stop at just plagerising our idea but to stop aussies from selling the product. Aussies have been kind to allow the american sell their designs, but they've taken a step too far.

In the Australian Maquarie Dictionary, Ugg Boots were defined as boots from sheepskin...etc, and it has been in the dictionary for several years.

Now that company has said they will sue the firm of Maquarie Dictionary and Aussie ugg boot designers.

The initial response from the american company was that they invented it, but this was so contradicted by the news findings. Their second response was that they've placed a lot of research into the ugg boots....which does not call to push other aussies out of business.

The international trade is growing, and that bloody american company has BLOCKED all trade of the Australian Ugg Boots, the Original Ugg Boots. Which means, aussie produces cannot sell Ugg Boots overseas even if the buyer has bought it...

Totally ridiculous, and they're coming here to sue the remaining ugg boot makers for selling Ugg Boots to fellow Aussies....

I'm fully annoyed, they should should play fairly like Mcdonalds or Microsoft, rather than insult Australians cultural background.

Thanks
Jim

I'd like to sue the inventer of those boots, not because I feel entitled to the product name, but because they've assaulted my eyes and insulted my tastes numerous times.

Hi, this is Oklahoma, your feet are not going to freeze off. Put away the ugly boots.

I doubt the quality or appearance of the boots is the point of this thread. Question is this, I believe:

If a person or company has invented something (a concept, brand, product, ... ) and has been making that something for a number of years, is it RIGHT (morally speaking) for a company to just deposit their claim, take the brandname for their own and forbid the original person or company to make or advertise as it has always done? This without conferring with, or giving compensation to the original makers.

Captialistic dirty tricks are the rule of the day here, now. After all, if Richard Nixon can use dirty tricks to get his way, and his henchman get jobs at Fox despite their criminal background, what the heck. Why should any big company here act honorably? Nixon set the tone for everything that's gone on in business here. From Enron, Halliburton,Worldcom, Arthur Anderson, and the whole lot of white collar criminals. After all, if it's okay for the President of the United States to commit criminal acts while in office and be pardoned by the incoming president, the rules have changed.

And neon signs. Admit it: you love it. Jean Baudrillard, post-marxist and elitist cultural critic extraordinaire, was great because, precisely at the moment he was doing the French-cultural-snob bit, you could tell he was being seduced by the very gaudiness of American hypercapitalism culture that he was ostensibly critiquing.

Ugg Boots are great for one thing to wear around the house on a cold night to keep the feet warm, never should they be worn outside.

On a cold night, slip on your ugg boots, slip on a sheep skin jacket, turn the heeating down and save our natural resources, and the enviroment, just don't ever wear then outside (well the jacket is okay).

This happens all the time in business, not just exclusive to the USA.

I also have to mention, to say play fair like McDonalds and Microsoft is a bit of a stretch, as if they play fair.

"As Frank's discovered, in this ever-increasing litigious world, just because you name it doesn't mean you own it....For Tony, there's a simple reason they decided not to register the name "Ugg".

"We thought about it years and years ago and we just thought, 'Hey, it's a generic word, how could anybody do it let alone us, why bother because everyone in the industry uses it?'" he explains.

Now, that oversight is costing them dearly with their products being withdrawn from a leading international auction website. "

He never registered the name, he doesn't own it, never did, they aren't stealing anything from him. Him deciding to not bother with it, is what is costing him his business.

Wow! I must haved missed those chapters in my history book. There was no "tyranny" before America?
tulc(part of the problem)

Ok, I may have gone overboard with the tyranny thing. We have contributed greatly to weapons of mass destruction. Hows that? As you know we have the best weapons, I am so proud!

how many countless patents have been stolen from the US by the likes of china?
Patents only work when each company violates each other in such a way they cancel out each other.....

And in anycase, China does violate patent rules, but at the same time America violates everyones patent rules.

The Ugg boots don't come under patents, because it's been in public sale even before this company decided to make them.

The fact of the matter is, it's a well established Australian invention. It's been in public sale for decades. Just because a person doesn't own it, doesn't mean someone else can take the name out.

It's like the meat pie, I love eating it, and it's starting to get popular in America....it's been in Australia for a long time....

It's a common name, I make meat pies at home and I call it a meat pie.

Or bread, we call bread "BREAD"...

Ugg Boots, their called "Ugg Boots".

If America love to Buy Australian Ugg boots, and they're not made in Australia anymore, and without genuine Australian manufacture....then you're buying a SHAM.....

I'm kinda sure that most of Australia knows about this incident....and I'm quite sure I won't be buying any Decker Decked up garbage.

That's exactly what it means, if you don't register it it's not yours. Someone does own the trademark name Bread, the band.
We call bandages, band-aids but only one company owns that johnson and johnson, if any other company actually put "band-aid" on their package they'd be sued, same for Kleenex.
