So just out of curiousity what did he tell you?

He told me it wasn't important and if I wanted to know about science I should ask the scientists.

Well, God's deliberating on the answer, but it seems that Genesis is definitely an metaphor in and of itself.

Scientists have been there, done that. You forget what God tells us thru His Creation. See the first quote in my signature.

Yep. Remember, the scientists who falsified creationism at the beginning of the 19th century were all Christians and many of them were ministers. Yes, they did have some heart to heart talks with God over the issue. Non-scientist ministers did also. Rev. Charles Kingsley being one. He started out a creationist, couldn't stand the Appearance of Age argument, agonized over it, and then, when Darwin published Origin, embraced evolution as how God did it

You think Rev. McCosh didn't pray over the issue before he made his sermons advocating the second quote in my signature?

Uh, we already know who that "someone" is -- the creationists.

Jon, it appears to me that you are doing what the creationists do: ignoring that God really did create! It's as though Creation is divorced from God in your mind, so we need to "ask" God about it. Why? God created. The Creation can't help be God's way of telling us how He created, because all the evidence in Creation was put there by God, wasn't it?

You're missing lucaspa's point. It doesn't matter if God's world is young or old, he still created it, and we can communicate through God by observing his creation and learning about it.

I don't like that second part, which I emphasized. Anyone who has an opposing viewpoint can simply say "you don't have a true relationship with God" and leave the discussion confident in the truth of their position.

However, on a positive note, it is refreshing to see a 14 year old who can write legibly.

Your advice is misplaced on two levels.

1 - You are preaching to the choir here. In this Christians Only forum, all of us seek God's will and spiritual enlightenment through prayer and studying God's Word.

2 - The only 'truth' that God shows us, through prayer and studying His Word, are morals and spiritual principles. God answers to the heart, not the brain. Things like science, math, geography and the like, are what He gave us our brains for.
