I John 2:15-17 as rendered by JB Phillips:

"Never give your hearts to this world or to any of the things in it. A man cannot love the Father and love the world at the same time. For the whole world-system, based as it is on men's primitive desires, their greedy ambitions and the glamour of all that they think splendid, is not derived from the Father at all, but from the world itself. The world and all its passionate desires will one day disappear. But the man who is following God's will is part of the permanent and cannot die."

Don't you agree, JB Phillips has a beautful way of expressing the "feeling" of the scriptures?

No Alta, it does not sound dumb at all. J B Phillips, was an Anglican clergyman, who long ago prepared a paraphrase the Bible into modern English. After He completed this he then revised his work into an actual "TRANSLATION". Bible Scholars generally agree that his work is extremely accurate. I think it is an anointed and BEAUTIFUL version, and I use it extensively in my studies.

When I am doing COMPARATIVE studies in the New Testament I never leave him out. He is always the first I seek.

I do not suggest you replace your KJV or ASV 1901 ed. But I do say for study purposes his work is a must. If you would like an online version you can find it at: http://www.ccel.org/bible/phillips/JBPhillips.htm

If you want a more complete biography of JB Phillips end a PM.
