If you have to add words to make it clear that it is Christian then it is probably not. They may well be Christians and in a band but they are not a Christian band. They are certainly not teaching the gospel. There is not Christ and the cross anywhere in their music, there is no resurrection, there is no grace. Therefore there is no gospel. They are even apparently ashamed to be associated with Christians. This is a problem. They may well be Christians but they certainly are not teaching the gospel as Paul taught it and yes that is important. If you don't believe me on that point I will gladly post scripture to back up my position.

I am not opposed to listening to secular music, but I am all for calling a duck a duck. And this band my brothers and sisters is a duck!

If they are not teaching Christ then they are not a Christian band, this is a pretty simple equation. Look at Thrice for instance, one of my favorite bands:

Betrayal Is A Symptom
Thrice

Faith,
is not something that I grasp
it's something that I fake,
as I'm slipping, as I'm falling through the cracks,
Faith
without actions is a mask,
for making the same mistakes
as I'm slipping as I'm falling through the cracks.

somehow I find beauty in our failings,
somehow I find meaning in these lies
somehow I'm made perfect in this fracture,
your back is begging sweetly for my knives,

I'm spilling blood,
glancing down to hide my face,
I walk with eyes closed tight through monuments of grace,

somehow I find beauty in our failings,
somehow I find meaning in these lies
somehow I'm made perfect in this fracture,
your back is begging sweetly for my knives!

my faith is a front, I'm spilling blood,
glancing down to hide my face, I walk with eyes closed
through monuments of grace, I'm spilling blood
glancing down to hide my face I walk with eyes closed
through monuments of grace

isn't it sweet how,
trusted with angels,
and how so quickly
I break my promises?
isn't it sweet, isn't it sweet, isn't it sweet, isn't it sweet?

This song is about his struggle with faith, faith in the Lord Jesus. He states this about the song unabashedly. However Thrice is not a Christian band. They play great music but a few songs about spirituality do not a Christian band make. Could this song from Thrice lead someone to look into the scriptures to see what he is talking about, of course it could, but it does it make the band a Christian band? By no means.

Let's get one thing straight, P.O.D. themselves claim they are not a "christian band." They decided not to be that because they want to sing about things other than God once in a while and they want to reach out non-christians in places like Ozzfest. "Christian bands" can't do either of those. Isn't going to Ozzfest (a concert blatenly for the devil) to minister a good thing, not a bad thing. Lots of non-christians hate just being straight up preached at. So they have the be a little more subtle and just simply show God's love. Sure not all their songs are about God but they all display Christian values.

How do they minister to people? Just singing about stuff that seems uplifting doesn't mean anything, you could say that about any number of bands and singers. Look at Leann Rimes (sp?) and Celine Dion. They both sing uplifting songs about love, does that make them christian? no. Even Michael Jackson sings many uplifting songs that appear to have a christian feel to them ("Heal The World", "We Are The World", both of which even talk about God, and "The Man in The Mirror come immediately to mind).

If you don't believe they've ministered to people, check out this relatively short link of people who found Christ through P.O.D. -- http://www.warriorklan.com/warriors/testimonies/

P.O.D. is a band with Christian band members. They are not a "Christian band" and have never claimed to be.

Ok, let's look at it this way. Let's look at a Christian band, Jars of Clay for example. I love this band, but if you look at ALL their songs, not ALL of them refer anything to God, but they are still a Christian band and no one claims anything different. Why should P.O.D? Just because they play on a secular label? So does Switchfoot. Because they play for people that most other Christian bands cannot play for? Isn't that what Christians do? Take the Gospel to the lost? I love Christian music and bands, but honestly at their concerts they sing to the choir. P.O.D may not be termed a "Christian" band, but they still share the gospel to who needs to hear it, the lost. Take it from me a man of experience, who has seen P.O.D, they share the good news and people get saved at their concerts. What more does people want? They played at Ichthus festival a few years ago, and that's a Christian festival.

P.O.D shouldn't be put in the mix with Evenescence. They used the Christian industry to jump start their careers. I have never seen, nor heard of P.O.D denying Christ or wondering why their cd's are sold in a Christian bookstore. No, not all of P.O.D's songs mention God, but check the list of every other Christian artist out there and see if they do. What about Switchfoot, Pillar or Kutless? Check out their songs and you'll see what I mean. P.O.D's music is positive and uplifting. In their newest album Sonny says, "I want that unmistakable Jah glow." Their wanting to shine for God. And based on those quotes from Marcos? Well he's not a part of the band anymore and it's because of his differences of beliefs. But P.O.D does take the gospel where they go, I've seen them.

Take me to the promised land. Where I and I is free,

That is from POD and not Christian, that is straight up Rasta!

And how about their own words?

"You were recently criticized by Christian radio talk-show host Dr. Dobson for forsaking your religious beliefs by touring with Ozzfest and Korn".
WUV: We respect the man, but he never had a conversation with us. Just because P.O.D. are a spiritual band doesn’t mean we adhere to any one religion, and all kinds of people want to use us as a symbol for their thing. There’s a thousand different definitions of what a Christian is, but we don’t feel like there are any lines."
(Rolling Stone, Dec. 14-21, 2000, p. 102)

G1- P.O.D. is known for its religious beliefs, and Ozzfest can easily be viewed as a debauchery— you know, sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. Is there a conflict of interest?
MC- Yeah, but we're not necessarily a Christian band. We are, to an extent, a rock band that loves God, and we're not ashamed of that."
(Interview with Guitar One)

Q: Are you or are you not a Christian band?
A: We’re not, but we do believe in Jesus. We don’t mention Jesus in our songs, though. . ."
(www.movieline.com, 11.00.1999)

"To tell the truth, though, I don’t even like the term Christian. . . "
Marcos, POD
(Guitar Legends, No. 37, p.28)

"I don't even like saying I'm a Christian sometimes because it leaves such a bad taste in people's mouths."
Sonny, P.O.D.
(Spin Mag, Ocotober 2001, p. 88)

I am not saying their music isn't great, if that's your thing. I am not one of those people who think that we should only listen to Christian music 24/7, not by any stretch. But POD sure aren't a Christian band. They may be Christians and in a band together, but that does not a Christian band make. Lets just call a duck, a duck and be done with it. I would be worried if I were them though:

Revelation 3:16
So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Lets see how that fits with their saying they don't like even the term Christian. I am sorry if that sounded like it has a tone. I actually liked them somewhat until I found that they are ashamed of od being associated with Christ by being called Christians.

THANKU SO MUCH!!! POD has had me confused for the longest time, going back and forth trying to figure out if I should listen to them. THANKU :D THANKU :D THANKU :D

ok whether or not they are a christian band doesn't matter, because what they do they do to spread the message of god...and minister to the secular community...if they put Jesus or Christ and Cross in their songs over and over they would be automatically denied by the secular community, but by being more artistic in their wording, they are first appreciated for their talent and people listen on the radio for the sound, buy the cd, read the lyrics, think about them, and maybe they search for christ...maybe they don't but chances are most people think about it once at least...i know i did...

This song I think is thier most powerful and also declares what they truly stand for.

PREACH by POD

Let it be know that you heard it from here
When I'm on this microphone you know I make myself clear
With the power, with the love with the boldness
Look in my eyes and remember wo told you this
Payable on Death gonna hit ya hit-man
Talk all you want, I don't fear any man
Cuz ya frontin' ain't nothin but words to me
You never had the stuff and your butt ain't crazy enough
To handle, we come step to me
My King is He in the power of Three
So what you want you ain't down with us
You get so scared, so mad when I say the word Jesus
I ain't down, you preach too much
But if you ask me boy, I don't think I preach enough
I tell you God is real,
so don't miss the boat
But since we come off hard, you say we shove it down your throats
You wanna talk that talk, walk that walk
I'm the only person you see, but it ain't me that you mock
Man is nothing, but you think that you're bad
Fool if it wasn't for my God, I would have already had you
Deny His name are you willing to admit it
And if so, are you willing to die for it
Cuz I am, He is my life and I don't fear death
Cuz he already paid the Price
All your talk and are your threats ain't jack blaspheme my God
Yo punk I'm not having that, turn away it's your own loss
Cuz all I can do is just take them to the cross

The bold Italics underlined parts clearly is the gospel.... nuff said.

theres more as well... but this will do.

Awesome, i can go with that.

POD has reached more people than what most CMM muscicians ever would just for the simple fact they are secular.

God is about Love, and showing... POD is a light in the dark, not a fading light being consumed.

Every Knee "Wherefore, God had highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name, and at the feet of Jesus every knee shall bow of things of Heaven, of things of Earth, and things under this Earth and at the name of Jesus, every tongue shall confess that He is King, under God the Father"

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Every Knee "That in the beginning was the word the word was with God the Word was God"
John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Every Knee "Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God the word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, full of grace and truth"

Just thought id put that in here to show that POD do have biblical references in their songs. I think they are a great band and heaps of people have been saved because of them.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

I understand they dun proclaim from the mt tops that they are christians and I cant see their hearts but...We are not to be ashamed of our faith.

So Christian or nonchristian...what are they?

Yes, indeed in the end it all comes down to their view of God.

The REAL question, for those judging, condemning, rebuking over and over, using publicity, self righteous judgement and even the media, is that what if you're wrong about them?

Regardless who's views they are, there are christians out there, saturated in pessimism, slander and pride who will ALWAYS see good fruits as evil.

Solution? If you think POD are wicked, then you keep it to yourself and God. God will be the judge of that. This includes all other christians you "think" are wicked. If you have a problem with what they are doing that you believe is wrong, you silence you tongue.
