The Ark of the Covenant

RT,

You've hit on a point that also came to me last night. The ark was once captured by an enemy army and caused so much trouble that they sent it back to Israel. This causes me to doubt that the ark fell into enemy hands at a later date, and I also doubt the ark would have been moved very far because of the unusual and unique way of transporting it. Logic would dictate that if it is still in existence it is under the temple mount or nearby. It was NOT destroyed in 70AD because it had already been missing for several centuries prior to that.

I have read in the Old Testament Apocrypha; which is included in the Jerusalem Bible; that the prophet Jeremiah hid the ark in a cave on Mt. Sinai, and said to those who were with him; that they should tell no one of it's location and that; it would be revealed in the last days.

It has been a while since I've read it, but I will look it up and let you know ASAP.

2 MACCABEES 2:4-7

It was also contained in the same writing, that the prophet, being warned of God, commanded the tabernacle and the ark to go with him, as he went forth into the mountain, where Moses climbed up and saw the heritage of God. And when Jeremy came thither, he found a hollow cave, wherein he laid the tabernacle, and the ark, and the alter of incense, and so stopped the door. And some of those that followed him came to mark the way, but they could not find it. Which when Jeremy perceived, he blamed them saying, As for that place, it shall be unknown until the time that God gather His people again together, and receive them unto mercy.

If the earthly ark (of the covenant) was symbolic of the heavenly ark, and the heavenly ark still exists, then the 10 Commandments within the heavenly ark are still there, unchanged. Do you know what that means? They haven't been abolished.

Revelation 11:19
And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament:

Hebrews 8
1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

Deuteronomy 10:2
And I will write on the tables the words (10 Commandments) that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark.

Deuteronomy 10:5
And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me.

G'day 2002 Christian

The devil, in this case is NOT in the detail -as they say.
John seeing the ARK is none other than an indication that Heaven was open to all -through the sacrificial Blood of Christ. Before this NO-ONE saw the ARK but on occation the High Priest. The ARK typifies the VERY presence of God, which now in Christ is here -the New Covenant in His blood.

Along a different line, your thought of the "10 Commandments" i.e., 'The Law' still being active is interesting. Jesus in Matt 5:17 tells us that in Him the Law AND Prophets find their ultimate fulfilment. Verse 18 goes onto say that as long as "Heaven and Earth" remain so does the Law -to its minutest degree, and nothing passing away from it. Heaven and Earth are still here -so according to logic so must be the Law. And if this be so then we are still under it and consequently not under GRACE -so still lost in our sins.

That is IF "Heaven and Earth" means this physical creation of ours. I believe it DOES NOT. "Heaven and Earth" is prophetic apocalyptic language [a euphemism] describing the world of Old Covenant Judaism. And THIS was the "Heaven and Earth" that was coming to an end -the old creation: "For if any man be in Christ he IS a New Creation" "the Flesh [old covenant Judaism] counts for NOTHING, what counts is a NEW CREATION!!"
