the alliance of great nations. what makes you think that this hasn't already taken place?>
Hello RKF,
This is an excellent question. We are living in very exciting days. What a blessing it is to be alive in these last days. It would be very easy to read this chapter and miss the whole treasure, but we won't let this one slip through our fingers. Yes, it's true that Babylon was already defeated and destroyed. They were defeated by the Medio-Persians in the first phase of this prophecy, Jeremiah 50:3.
I believe that the alliance of great nations are forming now. I would say that the coalition of nations that are fighting the Global War against Terror right now, are the very same ones who will fulfill phase II of this prophecy.
Lets take a look at phase II.
Jeremiah 50:9 - "For I will stir up and bring against Babylon an alliance of great nations from the land of the north. They will take up their positions against her, and from the north she will be captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not return empty-handed."
Notice that in verse 3 that it was a single nation that brought about the destruction of Babylon, but in verse 9 it is an alliance of great nations that do it. Most people don't know it, but Saddam Hussein thinks that he is the reincarnation of King Nebuchadnezzar. He has been re-building Babylon since 1988, to bring back it's former glory. I have seen pictures of parts of Babylon, and he is doing an awesome job of recreating it. It has very wide walls around it that stretch 56 miles long.
The second phase did not happen in 1991, in the Gulf War. If you remember, that invasion came from the south, in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. That war did not attack Babylon, they went after Bagdad instead, not harming Saddam's most prized possession. I believe this next time will be totally different. Turkey has taken our side in this war against terrorism, and I believe that the allied nations will attack from there, which is north of Iraq. Their is a big mouth running Iraq who loves to utter mighty words. Too bad they are words of a fool. Bye-bye Sadman Insane, your days are numbered.
