Hey everyone! I'm looking to get some advice from anyone who has knowledge on this subject! My daughter is just a couple weeks away from her first birthday, and we have been talking about weaning her from formula and putting her on regular milk. However, when she was just days old she was diagnosed with a milk allergy. Since then, she's been on Nestle Good Start's Soy formula. She can't even stomach other brands of soy! Because of this, I don't want to throw her into cow's milk, but don't know much about Soy milk.

I am, of course, asking her pediatrician about this, but I'm having a hard time getting through to him. I spoke to one of his associates, but he didn't seem to have a grasp on the situation. He seemed to blow us off, so I'm not quick to take his advice! =P

I would love any advice from someone who has been in this situation! If you have any info to share, please let me know!

Thank you in advance!!

Just an aside that our daughter's teacher shared with us. Because you're child has had so much soy, you may want to be careful when you introduce peanut butter because sometimes early and lots of soy can trigger an allergy to other legumes esp. peanuts. Hope everything turns out ok, and like a previous poster said, many kids outgrow milk allergies by 2 or so. Hope all goes well.

I don't have any idea where your from er located in the states, but if'n your that worried bout cows milk there's a couple thins you could try. To start wit ya might go an try straight cows milk, before it's pasterized as alot of allergies don't come from the milk but the process. Another thin ya could try that works well for kids but manages to scour their bowls a bit is goats milk. Again, all that sorta depends on where ya at an if'n ya could git ahold of some. You can always walk into a feed store an ask around a bit. There's gonna be quiet alot of work goin this route though.

talk to her doctor. he will tell you what to do. that is the only advice you need to consider unless someone has had a child with the same problem. your childs doctor will know right away what you should give her. after 1 i know they can start on milk. however it may be different for your little one.

Personally I think doc's are educated dinggle berries.... especially since she said her doc was kinda blowin er off, or rather the feller she was talkin to was blowin er off an not lettin er talk to the doc. Do what works by all means an if'n your doc won't listen to you, find one that will.

Hello everyone! Thank you for the wonderful advice! Things have been going very well. I did finally get to talk to her doctor about it, and his advice was similar. He was not the one that initially told me to use soy formula, but said that he probably would have anyway! She was diagnosed with Acid Reflux when she was just a few weeks old, and switched to soy formula shortly after. He said that the two usually go hand in hand. In order to help reflux-ey babies, they cut out anything that could harm them, including cow's milk. He told me to give it a try, and I did! Man, she LOVES milk now! She's on 2 and a half bottles of it a day, and boy, she sucks it down! I keep a formula can in her diaper bag for the ladies at the nursery at church, but she won't take it from them anymore! Yeesh, after tasting the stuff one time, I sure wouldn't choose it over anything else! Even AIR tastes better than that!

So Praise God!!! Thank you for all of the helpful advice! I'm just so happy that she has adjusted so well to it!
