I once went to a christian concert at a church it was two parts...part 1 was praise and worshp..the place was packed and everyone enjoyed it..then part2 was christian heavy metal..within 3 songs the place completely cleared out..the only people left were the friends of the band! I actually liked the lyrics but the music it self seem like darkness...

I'm a metalhead living in detroit. Before i was saved,i listened to bands like rob zombie and rammstein. I wanna be that extreme in music. is that wrong.

If those are the bands you listen to then yer not a metalhead. Those bands are not metal. But be that as it may..

No, there is nothing wrong with making music however you like.

Seems like darkness. Heh. Only if you are one of those people who think that your musical tastes determine whether music is evil or not..

I'm a closet metal head too.
It's not sinful, it's just emabarrasing.
I'm a strong Christian homeschooling mom with 6 kids in an uber conservative Reformed church & I miss Slayer, & Venom etc. At the Bible study I lead at the jail the girls every now & then will mention some thrashin' band & about fall off their chair in shock when I say, "Yeah, those guys rock." I can't listen to the stuff I used to anymore, way too satanic.
Tell me who some Christian metal bands are. I know about P.O.D., but that's not fast enough. I called the Christian radio station out here & asked them for a list of bands, they had no idea, they don't play any.

hey reformed fan!!!! i too used to listen to secular metal bands, i.e. slayer, meshuggah, full devil jacket, and others. got rededicated, and began a search for christian metal/extreme hard rock. here is a few of my favs, Extol , real awesome christian swedeish metal band, Living Sacrifice , probably the greatest metal band i have ever heard in my life. unfortunately they have broken up as of last summer, but their cd's are still able to purchase from there website, Disciple is another good one, they are more nu-metal but great, Narcissus and Zao are some more great ones. if you want an entire list i have like maybe 40 christian metal/extreme hard rock cd's.

now my opinion on "is being extreme in music a sin". a big fat negative. i myself am in a christian metal band. several of us work for TVA and there are guys there that listen to heavy metal, goth, etc. they thought we were just some computer dorks/nice funny guys who liked the same music. they showed up at one of our shows and saw how we are. we totally go extreme in our music. we throw our faith out there and let everyone know that we are not ashamed of jesus christ. now these guys have limited there language around us, one has started to go back to church, and the other is asking questions about church. so no, being extreme is not a sin when you get good fruit from it. as long as you are professing god in your lyrics, like he said in his word "if i be lifted up i will draw all men unto me" that includes in extreme music.

Rammstein and rob zombie weren't the only bands i listened to. i just stated those two bands because they were an example of the kind of stage show i wanted to have. anyway, thanx you and everybody for their advice.i just wanna make great metal thats like an event. More old school than alot of the stuff that's out though anyway thanx

Hi LoGoTH,
Thanx for the band list. Please send me all the titles you know of, if you havre the time. My lil' Podunk Christian Book store in the country probably won't have a gigantic selection of thrashin' music. Probably I'm the only one in the state with such weird taste in tunes.
I think I'll send my kids in to buy for me

I was wondering.. you do know that Tom Araya is a Christian, yes?

Hmm. LoGoTH had some good ones..
Ultimatum have some decent thrash.
Graveworm is quite good.
Also Mortification is excellent if you can stand the ultra-lame lyrics.
Vomitorial Corpulence is neat though perhaps not what you are looking for.
Feast Eternal is pretty decent.
Soul Embraced are tolerable, but more metalcore then metal.

..and of course the almighty Horde.

Also for some secular bands without "satanic" lyrics you might want to check out:
Kreator (Even if you have no interest in secular music.. they just own.)
Vio-Lence
Overkill
Death Angel
Metal Church
Testament

No way. Do it yerself. Metal is not just for teenagers anymore.

..though more then likely for a lot of these would require mail-order or ebay to find.

Woo hoo for extreme music!!!!!

Personaly I think that music is God's creation, and from looking at the rest of God's creation, I would say that God is very comfortable with extremes :)

Many of the greatest classical composers were very extreme (Beethoven, Bach etc) in their music, and some of the lyrics in old Hymns make modern Christian worship seem tame and insincere.

I play in Melodic Progressive Death Metal band called fearscape and our aims as a band are to 1) Honor God and witness to His work in our lives. and 2) Explore the deepest experience of emotion through music.

p.s. a really cool band are Virgin Black (very goth death metal meets opera/classical... and I think they are christian ;))

Yeah I'm in a Christian metal band, one of the really cool things we do is Seasons in the Abyss with alternate lyrics that my best friend, the guitarist and singer wrote :) it's fun to play but hurts my arms lol. Memphis Will Be Laid to Waste by Norma Jean too, what a song! My Tourniquet by Soul Embraced as well.

Lol sorry I'm just on about my band. Erm theres a website I know but I'm not allowed to put links on so PM me if your interested. There's this guy called David Benson who sounds almost exactly like Ozzy, but Christian. Kohllapse are another good Christian band, Living Sacrifice have been mentioned, Evergreen Terrace, New Jerusalem sound like Led Zeppelin but Christian, I don't think Zao has been mentioned..Hammertown are really good, but they've only just got started, theres loads on my friends website i mentioned..Tourniquet are another Christian band, thats all Ic an think of. Sorry if it didnt make sense lol

try out the chritian metal bands. nothing wrong there. so what if the music is metal and grown ups dont like the way it sounds? God says even joyful noise is music to Him and if the lyrics are for Him, its all good. try out zao, living sacrifice, eso charis, and any bands on the solid state record label
