my brothers and sisters,
I was wondering if anyone else has read this, and what your thoughts are on it. Personally, I have been finding it very insightfull, particularly in leading a life of interior prayer. There seems to be a wealth of wisdom in the words of this book, especially for one who is determined to reach Sainthood. Jesus even speaks to us directly in this book, and the words ring so true that I have no doubt it is Him speaking. What a Godsend this book seems to be; I just wanted to share that with you all. :)

I have the book and have read most of it, though i tend to dip in and out of it, when in need of inspiration, comfort and reassurance that i'm plodding along on the right path! I adore this book, it is sheer genius. Makes me feel so lowly though, so humbled..it makes me feel as though i have many more stains upon my soul than those that resembled a mountain even before reading the book!

It's a superb little book---I have read through it several times.

It probably re-creates the closest atmosphere to the quiet of a medieval monastery that any of us in this day and age will ever get.

I would highly recommend "In Conversation with God" (not to be confused with the new age "Conversation with God".

It has been compared with The Imitaion of Christ. It contains meditations for each daily reading from the Mass. It is very spiritual and deep. I have been disappointed with the majority of daily devotionals that are put out by "modern" Catholic writers. This series comes in 7 volumes. The Author is Francis Fernandez a Spanish priest. If you want the best check it out.

Aaron, i was not suggesting that it is not a worthwhile investment...but there are those who are not as financially capable who would benefit greatly from reading the book.:)

This book is superb . . it is considered one of the greatest books of Christianity ..

I found my copy at one of those discount books stores for under $3.00 . . so it can be found cheaply . .

Yes, it most definitely you should get it! It was one I felt led to recommend to my brother as he and I began to discuss my conversion and why, and he feeling drawn to investigate Catholicism more . .

He then found a copy, and told me it was speaking exactly to his spiritual needs (I thought it might be too deep in ways, but that is the nature of this book .. it can be picked up by anyone where ever they are and they can be deeply feed by what is contained in it.)

I highly recommend it!

Peace in Him!

I had no idea this book was so highly regarded. I just happened upon it in a Catholic book store, read through a few pages, and found myself awestruck at the wisdom within it. Many books minister to people of society in an external manner, but this one seems to reach far beyond human to the limit of sainthood; to a life of true oneness with the Lord as heaven on earth. I have been finding that some Orthodox books are interior in much the same way.

I would suggest getting a good, modern translation.
I picked up the St. Joseph's edition. He did a great job with the NAB, so it must be a good translation in my opinion.

St. Therese of Lisieux loved the Imitation, and read from it every day.

My copy is the translation by the Daughters of St. Paul; it has a leather cover and gilt-edged pages, and is quite broken in, now......LOL.

I believed it is used in conjunction with DeMontfort's Total Consecration to Mary as well during the preparation phase . .

It is heavy, and the Holy Spirit does use it to convict one's heart . . It is like looking into a mirror and not liking what we see . . but it shows us our imperfection so we can deal with them through God's grace . . .

I discovered this book many years ago while a Protestant . .Protestants use this book as well!

Peace in Him!

Amen! This has been one of my favorite books and have reread it several times. I have a paperback version based upon the english translation by Richard Whitford whose translation first appeared in 1530.

There are several versions of this book (translations) as the original was written in 15th centry Latin.
