Arghh....I was just watching the 60 minutes piece on the Pope and they had some very good conservative priests giving their views. Then of course thy had to have to token wack job saying that with the new pope we'd see the end of the prohibition of birth control, female ordination, and celibacy will soon be out the window. Where do we get priests like this who know so little about their own faith?

How old was this priest?

In his 50s or 60s by the looks of him

Which means he was probably ordained in the '70s, in that crazy time after Vatican II, where a lot of the seminaries only let in the liberals.

Fortunately, these older priests (and bishops) are retiring, and the younger priests are much more orthodox.

Yea. 60 minutes actually said several times that the newer generation of priests is an extremely orthodox bunch. I was surprised by how much they stressed it. Overall it was a very fair piece.

A brother that I know describes the idea of female priesthood (an oxymoron) as:

As it wasn't in the beginning, ain't now, and won't ever be. Amen. :)

Fortunately for us who prefer not to have woman priests... it is Doctrine/Dogma that only men can be Priests... that cannot change...

As far as Priest being able to be married... that is a slight possibility... celibracy and a priest not being married is a discipline, not Doctrine or Dogma... Although, I don't see the CC allowing priests to marry or be married... I could be wrong...

There probably will be some changes, but prayerfully not the changes that these liberals are hoping for...I like the Traditions and the conservativeness of our CC very much... Perhaps, we all need to pray that the next Pope will be the right one endorsed by the Holy Spirit... that is our responsibility during this process of selecting a new Pope...

God's Peace,

I am going to go against the grain here and say at some point you will either see married Priests or women Priests. They have to do something to be able to keep the Eucharist available to all Catholics and people aren't entering the seminaries anymore at any good number.

My boss went to the seminary for 2 years before he decided it wasn't for him because he wanted to marry. He asked his Priest if you would ever see women priest or married priest. He said you won't see married Priests for a long time if ever but you may see women priests in your lifetime.

He said the married Priests should be allowed because we are the only religion that doesn't allow it. In fact if you are a Priest in one of the other denominations and are married and convert to the Catholic Church you are allowed to be a married Priest. But yet one of our own can't be married and be a priest.

I would not be in favor of women priest but I don't see anything wrong with married Priests. But clearly something has to be done to get more priests or we are in danger of losing our people.

I know I looked into the Priesthood and I was told to go and get a 4 year college degree and then come back and talk to them. I have a full time job where I work 40-60 hours a week and then on my time off I am a volunteer firefighter and EMT so I have to find time to make the training and calls for that and then I manage to take 1 college class a semester so getting a 4 year degree in time to enter the seminary is pretty much out of the question since I am going to be 33 years old this month. Most people don't have the money to go and get a 4 year degree and then go back to be a Priest and those that do have that kind of money aren't going to be Priests when they get out of college.

This is the kind of thing that is going to have to change if they want to have new candidates enter the seminary. I am not saying that the Church should give people a free ride but they should do something like they do at my job where they pay for your college as long as you are with the company (in this case the Seminary) if you leave the company you have to pay back what they gave you for education benefits for the last year. (In the Church's case if you leave the Seminary you have to pay back the money for school.) But telling people "Go get a 4 year degree and then come back." isn't going to help the Church get any new priests and I have been told this by a few different Priests in different diocese.

That is true Dream, Actually, I just looked up on the web and they said they are something like 100 married RC Priests in the US. Some Protestent Priests/Ministers are allowed to become RC Priests if they are married and convert to Catholism, this is actually something Pope John Paul II allowed.
