I will say again...

I just spent eight hours behind the gates protecting YOU and the rest of the public from hundreds of rapists, killers and other habitual criminals...
But if you would like maybe they can move next to you or live with you since you think they are such upstanding people.

What do you propose?
what do you want to do in order to prevent sex offenders from raping more children and killing them such as was the case twice in the last 3 weeks?

I am ( as many on CF know) very pro-life yet i think the death penalty is needed in some cases.

being anti-death penalty doesn't imply that i want all offenders to spend the rest of their lives free, or that i feel that they should not be punished. certainly not at all. i think life in prison is a viable, cheaper, and more humane alternative.

People who are sentenced to life in prison are the walking dead, There needs to be a ultimate price to pay for some of the "ultimate" crimes that are commited.

I totally agree with you and am exactly the same, pro-life but feel the death penalty is needed in some cases. I would give you reps for a good response, but it says I have to spread it around before giving you more.

what laws do you deem to be 'wrong?'

the death penalty statute...that is what this whole thread is about. i believe that it is wrong to have a death penalty statute on the books, as i feel it is a form of cruel & unusual punishment, prohibited by the constitution. the supreme court hasn't yet agreed with that (except for the couple year halt of it back in the 70s) but i see the recent ruling from the supreme court that it is unconstitutional for juveniles to be subject to the death penalty as a positive sign that the tide is turning.

I don't agree with the death penalty in all cases, but I do agree with it in some cases.

are there any situations in which you would support the death penalty?
what if your child was raped and murdered?
what if a person killed numerous people and ate them?
what if a person was a terrosit and killed thousands ?

would you support it then?

i don't know how many different ways i can say that i feel the death penalty is absolutely horrendous and immoral, and that i do not support it in any case.

Hopefully the rapist, who committed such a despicable crime, will count his blessings and turn his incarceration into something positive.

Actually, I would want the person to live, no matter the crime. I would add, don't make assumptions about me and what my attitude is supposed to be. I would never sentence a person to death nor wish them to be sentenced to death. That's just being a animal in my eyes, a vengeful one at that.

Did I mention your name in the post you quoted ?? Then Don't ASSUME it was directed at you. We have laws for a reason. If you can't follow them, Then you pay for the crime. If you kill someone, You get sentenced accordingly. It is NOT my decision if the person gets the death penalty or not. It is the jury which convicted him. In my mind, If the crime warrants it, You can get it. So, Don't presume to know what makes me tick or what motivates me.

Am I the only Christian here against the death penalty? :(

I hope that they have a chance to come to know Jesus.
He died for their sins, as He did mine.

One would think so, But, When they kill each other in prison ?? What are we to do ?? Send them to their rooms ?? They have to follow the rules no matter where they go. If they kill someone else, Let the punishment fit the crime.

There are probably honest and well-meaning positions on each side of this debate. I was just giving my opinion, based on how Jesus treated criminals when He was here. I used to be very pro-death penalty, but after alot of honest soul-searching examining my motives and much prayer, I changed my mind on this. I do respect the opinion of the other side and see how it is reached.

Outstanding response....I used to be very Pro death penalty but became anti-death penalty but Now I am pro-death penalty ( still leaning towards life in prison) I am just rely upset yet about the two little girls who have been raped and killed by sex offenders who were released from prison only to kill...

I know. If it were my little daughter I'd want to kill them with my own hands. I'd hope God would give me strength not to, though, because it would be a fleshly wish for vengence, and vengence is His. Watching the news is just really sad these days, .....and very discouraging. I just know that if God could change my heart, He can change anyone's heart. I'm leaving the option open that I am wrong, but I think He loves those killers and rapists and thiefs. I think He's already died for their sins. I think they should be punished by being seperated from society for all their life, but if there is a chance they can love and accept Him, we shouldn't take it away.

You raise some decent points here, But, If they don't want to change and accept what has been offered. Then we cannot force them to do so. it is their decision and their decision alone to change. We cannot make them do so. Right ??

Seperation of church and state doesn't mean that citizens working within government have to forget everything they ever knew about God, it just means that no religion gets preferential treatment. Other people are free to discuss their religious beliefs too, if they aren't well received then that's just a consequence of getting a jury of peers. But it's a far cry from the government saying that religion is right, so I don't see how it interferes with seperation of church and state.

It's not about Church State separation. It's about the laws that guide decisions on death penalty vs life in prison. Colorado state law is the applicable law. The bible is not. Neither is Nigerian law or Russian law or French law. Had the jurors consulted French laws in their decision it would have been equally inappropriate.

Right. But we can be patient as "God is patient, wishing all to come to salvation.."

(BTW, your little boy is cute as he can be. He makes me want to move to where ever y'all are, to babysit him, and spoil him rotten! I've got suckers and gum and I'm not afraid to use them.;) )

Crazyfingers, your avatar is priceless, too!!!! That is one p.o.'d kitty!
