Does anyone know of any good object lessons that would be appropriate for elementary age kids. I am helping out with our childrens ministry this month and am looking for new ideas. As an example this is one of the teachings this Sunday.

No Strings Attached.

You take a balloon and write Happiness, peace, eternal life, etc., all over it. Then you hold it in front of the group of kids by the knot with 6 or so strings hanging down. You tell the kids to take the balloon. They will naturally grab the strings which are not tied to the balloon. Once all the strings are gone you tell the kids that they represent money, popularity, pleasure, etc. True Happiness has no strings attached and is trusting in Christ.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks and God Bless you all.

you can also have them make evangelism bracelets for themselves and for friends with different colored beads:

green for garden of eden
black for sin
red for the blood of Jesus that covers sin
white for the purity we become because of Jesus
yellow for the eternal life we will have forever in the golden city.

I always thought this was a cute thing. Tom, the man in my congregation who does many of the children's sermons was doing a thing on the verse "Whoever shall be last shall be first."

He got a bunch of those chocolates in the shape of gold coins. (Though it could be done with any little candy.) And he told the kids to line up in front of him. Naturally, all the kids wanted to be first. So then Tom gave the first child 1 candy. The second child got 2 candys, and so on down the line. So the person who was last got the most candy. He then went on to explain about the Bible verse. I think that was one of the best visual aids to demonstrate a Bible verse and I really enjoyed it.

As the kids went back to their seats, he did give those who had only gotten a couple candies more...so they wouldn't get too upset...but I think the lesson was learned.

I don't know how big of a group of kids you get...so it might be easier to use something like M&M's instead of larger sized stuff. But there's an idea for you. :)

That candy idea might work well. We do a bible memory verse every week. We have 80 -100 kids each Sunday. This takes place in a High School Gym. My church is only about 2 years old and doesnt have a building yet. A typical program consists of a 3 or 4 games, interspersed with teachings. The kids are given plastic coins they can trade in for prizes at the end of each month for knowing answers and memorizing bible passages. Its high energy designed to make church fun. We use puppets, skits, anything we can think of to keep their attention and make things fun. Its a blast.

I like the bead Idea too. Maybe we can give the kids beads one at a time for knowing verses each week to make a bracelet. Keep them comming. This is great.
