My impressions are this:

I love the ESV.
The notes and articles are the same as the old Reformation Study Bible (aka The New Geneva Study Bible) which was in the NKJV.

If you have this study Bible in the NKJV and are happy, don't spring for the new version. If you just have to have a good study Bible in the ESV (like I did) shell out the money.

I know a fine young Calvinist at work, I just might give him my New Geneva Study Bible....

That's great. So, can we only get it online...or would a good christian bookstore have it??
I have an NASB, not a study bible though, and I keep hearing that the ESV is a bit easier to read. My NKJV bible is a study bible, but it's a Nelson's, and it doesn't often mesh up with my newly acquired calvinistic beliefs...so I don't use it much.

I had decided I wasn't going to get a study bible, but I'm thinking differently now. Does the Reformation Bible have the reformed creeds in it? Like the Westminster Confession etc? I'm a Calvinistic Baptist, but very interested in learning more about the Reformed Presbyterians....

No, sad too say it doesn't. The Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible (NIV) has the Heidelberg Catechism, Westminster Confession, Westminster Shorter Catechism, Belgic Confession, Canons of Dort, and the Westminster Larger Catechism. You get not only the Presbyterian view, but also the Dutch Reformed view at one low price.

I think that both have strengths and weaknesses. I also think the Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible is a bit more Reformed Baptist friendly. Unfortunately the Reformation Bible tends to ignore our beloved Baptist brothers and sisters.

I got mine online, only because I live overseas and can't find a good English Christian bookstore.

hmm, something to think about for sure. My church uses the NIV, but I personally don't care for it as a study bible. So I was thinking maybe going for the ESV Reformation Bible as a personal study at home bible, and then getting a cheapie NIV for church(or continue using my NASB). I try to keep my NASB in the car so I don't forget to take it to church(easy to do when you are trying to get yourself and your 2 little ones--and hubby--ready for church!). The problem with that is that I'm left with my Nelson's Study Bible in NKJV for home-use, and I'd rather have something that aligns more with my beliefs.

I like that the SOTR has the extra Catechisms in it. Only because since I'm not Presbyterian, I've never read them and would have to go looking for them. to have them right there in my bible appeals to my lazy side! ;)

Decisions, decisions!!!  ^_^

Finding a "good" Christian bookstore in the U.S. isn't that easy either.
And everybody said :amen:

Here is a site that sells Bibles, etc. at VERY reasonable prices:

My ESV Reformation Study Bible has arrived too! yay!!!

As I mentioned in another thread, I went crazy and got hardback copies of both it and the SotR. I couldn't decide, heh. I'm a Bible-aholic. ;) When the other one gets here and I've had a chance to dig into both, I will post a comparison, for those that have more common sense than I do, and want to only buy one. :)
