The Day of the Lord is the time of God's wrath poured out upon the unrepentant, sinful world. Study these verses and remember to look at the contexts:

Isa 2:12
Isa 13:6
Isa 13:9
Isa 14:3 (Here we have a promise that the faithful will not go through this wrath)
Jer 46:10
Ezek 13:5
Ezek 30:3
Joel 1:15
Joel 2:1
Joel 2:11
Joel 2:31
Joel 3:14
Amos 5:18
Amos 5:20
Oba 1:15
Zep 1:7
Zep 1:14
Zec 14:1
Mal 4:5
Mark 13:24
Isa 24:29
Acts 2:20
1 Th 5:2
2 Pet 3:10
Rev 6:13-17

Especially, look at the Amos refs. We can see that the DotL is not a time of blessing and does not include the Millennium. It is a limited time, the time of God's wrath, which we, as His children saved by His grace, are not appointed.

No, the obedient are not appointed to wrath.
Neither were the 8 on Noah's ark as it flooded.
Neither was Daniel while in the lion's den.
Neither were the 3 Hebrew worthies while they were in the fiery furnace.
Neither were the Hebrews in Egypt while the plagues fell all around them in Egypt.
etc...

What is the 'day of the LORD'?

well lets look at scripture.....

1 thes 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night......Beginning right after the Rapture

2 peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a theif in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. .............end of the day of the Lord ....

rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heavens fled away; and there was found no place for them[spiritually dead ones]

the Rapture is the day of christ .....phil 1:6

2 peter 3:12 day of God after white throne judgement

we are in the day of man....

In regards to the endtimes; It is easy to find when the Day of the Lord begins.

Unfortunately, many modern theories and views have misunderstood this; and missed these scriptures; and therefore have placed the start of the Day of the Lord at the wrong time; and created much confusion within eschatological circles in reference to the Day of the Lord.

Jesus, through His infinite wisdom and use of the scriptures; shows us that the Day of the Lord begins at His Second Advent....and in no way before.

Jesus said,
"Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. "

So the faithful bible student can know assuredly, from Jesus' own words; that the sun, moon, and stars will not grow dark until 'after the tribulation' that will culminate in His Glorious 2nd Advent.

Does the Bible anywhere else, tell us when 'The Day of the Lord' will begin; in relation to the darkening of the sun, moon, and stars?

Yes. It tells us that not until after the sun, moon, and stars are darkened, will the Day of the Lord begin.

Isaiah 13:9
"Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, (it hasn't started yet, but will be preceeded by the celestial sign) cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine."

Also

Again, not until the 2nd Advent; will the celestial signs preceeding the Day of the Lord occur...

Isaiah 24:23
"Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously."

Also, most specifically,

Joel 2:31
"The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood,
before the great and terrible day of the LORD come."

Paul also, shows the Day of the Lord being directly associated to the Advent of our Lord.

II Thessalonians 4:15
"For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. "

We even find in Revelation; further commitment that not until the Lord's Advent; will the Day of the Lord begin....

Revelation 16:14
"which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon."

God's Word alone, makes it abundantly clear that the endtime start to the Day of the Lord will be preceeded by the darkening of the sun, moon, and stars; and will be acompanied by the glorious 2nd Advent of our Lord.

Any view that attempts to teach the Day of the Lord beginning prior to what Scripture plainly teaches; should be avoided.

we have differnet theolgy views...yet I see how you get your idea and putting the thief in the night together.

Yet the thief in the Night goes for this whole period which is 1007 years long

does anyone know when a thief comes? no

it is instantanous...it just happens a feeling of shock

La 2:22 - Show Context You called as in the day of an appointed feast My terrors on every side; And there was no one who escaped or survived In the day of the LORD'S anger. Those whom I bore and reared, My enemy annihilated them.

Eze 30:3 - Show Context "For the day is near, Even the day of the LORD is near; It will be a day of clouds, A time {of doom} for the nations.

Joe 2:31 - Show Context "The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.

Am 5:18 - Show Context Alas, you who are longing for the day of the LORD, For what purpose {will} the day of the LORD {be} to you? It {will be} darkness and not light;

Am 5:20 - Show Context {Will} not the day of the LORD {be} darkness instead of light, Even gloom with no brightness in it?

Zep 1:8 - Show Context "Then it will come about on the day of the LORD'S sacrifice That I will punish the princes, the king's sons And all who clothe themselves with foreign garments.

Zep 1:14 - Show Context Near is the great day of the LORD, Near and coming very quickly; Listen, the day of the LORD! In it the warrior cries out bitterly.

Zep 1:18 - Show Context Neither their silver nor their gold Will be able to deliver them On the day of the LORD'S wrath; And all the earth will be devoured In the fire of His jealousy, For He will make a complete end, Indeed a terrifying one, Of all the inhabitants of the earth.

Zep 2:3 - Show Context Seek the LORD, All you humble of the earth Who have carried out His ordinances; Seek righteousness, seek humility. Perhaps you will be hidden In the day of the LORD'S anger.

Mal 4:5 - Show Context "Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD.

Ac 2:20 - Show Context `THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME.

1Co 5:5 - Show Context I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

1Th 5:2 - Show Context For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.

2Th 2:2 - Show Context that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

2Pe 3:10 - Show Context But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. I think in general it is a time when the wrath of YHWH is poured out. It seems not to be limited to any single event, but it is a discription of this going forth of wrath.
