Well Wols, I was an Editor myself...so I have to wish you the best of luck.

Since your book is a religious book dedicated to a particular topic, you may have better luck than say, being a fiction writer trying to get your book published.

Getting a book published is rough these days...wait, check that -- it's always been rough...

It's like being a recording artist and the RIAA taking all the money... ;)

Actually, both Basilica Press and OSV were interested, but what I'm finding out is that the Catholic press usually consists of such small publishing houses that their production schedule is fixed in advance, sometimes for two or three years in advance......a lot of the Catholic publishers only put out five or six books a year. :)

But never fear----I will get this thing out there for you all as quickly as I can; and if I get no joy from the publishers, I'll simply post the whole thing on this board, and take the hit on whatever royalties I might have gotten.

I didn't write this thing for money, anyway----I wrote it because there's a need for the information to be out there. :)

Dear Wols:

I"ve known some people who have had their book published privately. Then they went on Amazon.com and promoted their own book while reviewing others. Now their book is taking off and requests are coming in from major bookdealers. Perhaps that will give you more coverage than merely posting it online.

Look up: Delano by John Orozco. It's an historical novel about life in the 60's that was written by my English professor. Warning: It's not a read for everyone as it has some explicit scenes. But if you will check Amazon.com you will see what John Orozco did to promote his own book.

Lovingly yours in Christ our God,
Elizabeth

My prayers for a Holy Season.

/me whips out her checkbook and waves the pen above the "Pay to the Order of" line...

Let's see, that's Garnet Wolseley, right? How much is the book, with shipping and handling?

Oh, and overnight FedEx it, too, I'll pay the extra!

Peace and publishing dreams,
~VOW

Wols, i'm sorry that you haven't had the success that we all anticipated you might have. A priest from our parish recently self -published a book, this was intended to be purchased by locals , but it was eagerly bought up and they had to go into reprint! There's no telling where word of mouth may lead ;)
I pray for your continued sucess. God bless you and yours.
