I just received an invitation to my high school class reunion. It will be a combined class reunion for all classes prior to 1980.

How many here have been to class reunions and what are your experiences with them? Particularly for single vs. married vs. divorced classmates, what kind of interaction would you expect?

Thanks for the response.

This one is supposed to be a Friday to Sunday weekend event. In 1978, it was a small senior class of 72 students in a small high school in a small town. The reunion would be all the classes prior to 1980, so it would be 40-somethings and up.

In contrast, I had moved from a larger high school when I was in the 10th grade where the senior class was around 400 students and the setting was in a city. The atmosphere at that larger school was more of your typical clique-groups, like in the movie "the Breakfast Club". But the small high school in the small town in which I actually graduated was much more friendly and much less cliquish. I can't remember any bullies...but I'm sure there would be a lot of bragging and comparing marriage situations and careers at such a reunion.

I try to keep up with both high schools' classmates on the "Classmates" website.

I didn't go to my ten year HSR because honestly, I even though ten years had past since seeing most people, I didn't really feel like my life or myself had really changed much. I attended a large high school (over 400 graduated in my class) and even though I had a good high school experience, I was excited to go.

Aside from college/grad school/climbing the corporate ladder, there was really not much else and like wildthing, the LAST thing I wanted to do was spend an evening of listening to comparisons of marriages, kids, houses, etc. - all stuff that I couldn't relate to.

Plus, I would had to go by myself which I didn't want to do either.

Maybe when my 20 year HSR rolls around I'll go.

Good luck!

I stayed home with a friend and watched 'Rommy and Michele's High School Reunion' on my 10 year class reunion from high school. I felt like a failure, since nothing I wanted in life, I had or acheived. Thank goodness that there was no 15 year, and who know when the 20 year comes along if I will go or not. My class was about 340+ students, so it would be interesting by the time 20 years rolls around.

I'm reminded of 2 episodes of the Andy Griffith Show where high school reunions are portrayed. In both reunions, Barney is crushed, first by Ramona Wiley, then by Thelma Lou. In the first one, Andy rekindles a romance with Sharon DeSpain (but later in the episode they remember what caused them to never get together).

I would never go to another high school reunion from the high school i graduated from. The people are very superficial and like wildthing said, it's just a bunch of drinking - not my cup o tea anymore :) however . . .

I did go to reunion from the h.s. i went to back east before i moved out here - i felt very honored that they included me even though i did not graduate from there and had a great time at that one. It was a blast seeing faces i had not seen in 20 + yrs.

Go with what your heart is telling you.

I went to two ten-year reunions, and had a great time at both of them. It was so nice to be able to not be intimidated by the cheerleaders, or to look down on the nerds. Things change, once you get out of high school. I never felt like I had to brag about my life.

I went to my 10-year reunion and, while I'm not sorry I did, it felt like I was hanging out with a bunch of strangers. I've stayed in touch with the people I care about from those years, so while it was interesting to see where people went with their lives, I haven't given most of them a thought since. My 20-year is coming up next year, and I think I'll skip it.

If I go to my high school reunion this year it will be the 35 year reuion. I graduated in 1970. It was pretty good but, I don't think that I will go . I think I'll stay home and enjoy chatting with some new friends I made on the internet.
Let me know when you want to talk. I will be here.

I went to my 10 year in 2000. It was great. The beautiful girls in your class became drop dead gorgeous. I thought I was going to need a drool cup. Mentally my mouth drop in total awe of their exquisite beauty. I can not wait for the 15 year one.
