Hi,

Patriach mentioned guardian angels in another post. What do Catholic believe about them? I know nothing about them, other than the fact that they minister and they they look into things related to the gospel (1 Peter 1:11-12) =)

Please do share! This sounds exciting =)

336 From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession.202 "Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life."203 Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.

Basically what the Catechism says is that each human being has an angel that is assigned to protect them.

"See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.

A common prayer to your guardian angel is:

ANGEL of God,
my guardian dear,
To whom his love commits me here;
Ever this (day, night) be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

Did anyone notice this?

Matthew 18:10 - See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven

Psalm 91:11 - For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

Also, do Catholics pray to angels like the way Catholics ask saints for interecession?

To Jason:

Some people pray regularly to their Guardian Angel, because the poor Angel has such a TOUGH JOB!

Parents often pray to the Guardian Angels of their children.

And the Archangel, St Michael, is patron saint of the police.

Peace be with you,

But is praying for angels or asking prayers for assistance actually biblical?

Well..hmmm...

We know the angels pray with the saints in Heaven and surround the throne of God. From Tobit 12:12 and Revelations we hear about angels offering prayers to God. We don't worship them like God. There is a huge difference between God and his servants. We know that they have a certain charge over us and we thank them for their care through conversation with them. But we all know that it is not they, but God who is the source of anything they do for us. In Heaven the angels and saints pray together and converse, why should it be any different here on earth?

Hm..that makes sense, especially since Heb 12:22 reveals the reality of where we are (in the spiritual realm):

But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, (Heb 12:22)

I LOVE what God is always showing me =)

God bless!

St.Peter was freed from prison by an angel according to Acts 12. When a woman heard him knocking on their door and told the others, they were in disbelief; they didn't think it could possibly be St.Peter;

15 They said to her, "You are mad." But she insisted that it was so. They said, "It is his angel!" (Acts 12:15)

Interesting..."his angel". Even a Protestant Bible commentary (like that of John Wesley) will say that this reflects the common belief of the Jews, (including the Apostles obviously) that people had their own Guardian Angels given to them, and even that they sometimes assume the visible form of the one they guard. That they say his angel is quite interesting, since such a statement takes for granted that people have a guardian angel.

It is clear in the Scriptures (like in Deuteronomy 32:8, or Daniel 10) that God gives nations a Guardian Angel; so too it would seem individuals.

As it says in the Psalms...

11 For he will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways. (Psalm 91:11)

As Christ Himself taught directly,

10 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven. (St.Matthew 18:10)

"Their Angel." There we go again...someone having a particular Angel.

What is also interesting, is that it says here this Angel both protects them, (as is obvious in other passages), but also see's God (Beatific Vision) and is in a position to supplicate before Him. Angels pray for those whom they protect. They are one link in the chain of the economy of grace.
