Bass guitar

I choose to play bass (I also play guitar) because it is the core of the beats of pure hate. With a strong bassist and drummer who can double bass you already have a half awesome band. I can't stand these horrible nu-"metal" bands who think by having a 5 string bass and playing the same 4 low end notes you have a good bassist. I also will not tolerate scum like that guy from Korn. He tunes far too low and he couldn't play bass if his life was on the line. I also dispise bassists who play with a pick. If you want to hit strings with a pick play guitar, bass you must shread your fingers and master. Heil!

Again,I think it is one of thse subjects that comes down to preference. Some people prefer to play with a pick, some without, some people prefer to play 4 strings, some 5, some 6 (4 sic solos)! Some people like Fenders some people like Laklands......the list goes on!

Bottom line, if you are a christian playing your intrument to honour God, I don't really care why your doing it! Go for gold.

Just to clarify, I am a bass player and yes I like to play with my fingers, and I play a four string Ernieball Stingray, and love using as much of the fretboard as possible. But some people will have different tastes then me. Thats life. thats how God make us....indervidual!

Hey.

I play bass/sing in a band Called Intone. We mainly play Rock/pop-rock. Based south Of Sydney AUS.
Sounds like fun stuff. Do you get to play at your church too?

Also, what kind of gear do you use?

My main electric is a 1998 Carvin LB70A (quilted Maple body with gold hardware). I also have a 1993 Fender HM (black) which isn't used much now, and a 1969 Gibson EB2 Hollow Body (sunburst) which gets hauled out every couple of months.

My typical setup for blues gigs is an early 1990s Peavey Mark VI amp, with ADA BassLine 15 (1x15) and Carvin 210RT (2x10) cabs.

When I play EBG or URB in my own church, I can get by a SWR WM12.

Sounds cool,

Yeh, all members of INTONE are all members of the Church Worship team at Shoalhaven COC. We all play our respective instruments and I am also a worship leader.

I use a Honyburst Ernieball Stingray4 where ever I go, it is my pride and joy. Until resently I had a small HARTKE Stack, but I sold it. i am in betwwen amps at the moment. Probly looking at Big Ampeg SVT 2 or simalar. But that will be next year when I can save up the cash!

Bass is easy if you play basic stuff. But when you are into jazz, r&b and fusion it gets a wee bit difficult;)
Hi, Blackwing,

Don't you think that's true of most instruments ... especially ones that sound one note at a time?

Also, even basic stuff on bass can be deceptively complex. It's one thing to squeeze off a few notes over the course of a 12 bar blues. But it takes a little experience and practice to really make a song groove.

Hm, I think violin is hard to sound good, even at a basic level of complexity. If you've ever heard beginning violin students, you know what I mean! ;)

And, I want to be one of those violin students! hehe.

Fusion... fusion is hard, I guess.... but I get a bit tired of the ... oddness of it all. Maybe I'm thinking of something different, but isn't fusion the stuff that changes time ever measure and stuff like that. If I remember correctly, a famous trumpeter that I forget the name of got into that stuff later on in his life. I couldn't stand it :D

In the 60s and 70s Fusion used to describe a blend of jazz and rock. In the 80s and 90s it came to mean a blend of jazz and almost anything. Recently, it seems like either a blend of Jazz and pop, or just odd electronic stuff.

I'm not a big fusion fan either, but I do like Chick Corea. Fusion always strikes me as if it's a lot more fun to play than listen to, anyway.

That trumpeter you're thinking of is probably Miles Davis

I love my bass guitar, the only lesson I've had in my life, is learning the fret board, the rest has been up to me, right now, I'm playing on a borrowed Squier, cause I can't afford my own, and when I can, I'm going to get myself an Ibanez, I just love the tone on those bad toys. Just my two cents worth.
