OH no! I hope you all don't call on the pagan Gods names such as Sunday, monday, tuesday, thrusday, friday.
It's true.

Sunday: Sun Day.

Monday: Moon Day.

Tuesday: Tiw's Day, after Tiw, Germanic god of war.

Wednesday: Wodin's Day, after Wodin, Scandinavian king of the gods.

Thursday: Thor's Day, after Thor, Scandinavian god of storms and thunder.

Friday: Fria's Day, after Fria, Germanic goddess of love.

Saturday: Saturn's Day, after Saturn, Roman god of agriculture.

January: after Janus, Roman god of doorways and arches.

February: after Februa, Roman purification festival.

March: after Mars, Roman god of war.

April: Latin aprire, "to open". (Rains a lot in Rome in April.)

May: after Maia, Roman goddess of the hearth.

June: after Juno, Roman goddess of marriage.

July: Julius Caesar.

August: Augustus Caesar.

September: "seventh".

October: "eighth".

November: "ninth".

December: "tenth".

Paganism is just a-poppin' out all over....

:)

So, all those days and months are named after pagan gods.

But we're talking about Christians who weave pagan practices and symbols into their faith, not about general society using accepted names for days. We're talking about Christians who insist that we should embrace the pagan symbols and forget their origins of being ways to worship foreign gods. Using an object of pagan worship and then calling it a CHRISTmas tree, well, that's a different order of things! You have to decide whether you're going to worship God or gods. You can't really do both.

We don't call on the name of the gods as prayers when we say monday, tuesday, etc., we use them to communicate in our world. There is a difference! Now, if you started using monday to remember to pray to the moon god, or thursdays to pray to thor, then it would be a pagan worship practice, right? Then it would be sin and we Christians would have to rethink the day name thing. I'd be fine with changing the names if we had to.

I like Christmas trees --I decorate mine mostly with nativity scene ornaments.
I could do away with Christmas presents.
I dislike christians who try to see who is the most spiritual at christmas time.
I like santa claus
I love Easter.
I do not care for the Easter bunny or baskets. This year I found chocolate crosses I am giving to my daughters. When they were little the Easter bunny came while they were at church and they got just one thing.
To celebrate your birthday is a way of thanking God for letting you live another year.
Are you Jevaohah s witness ? you have some of their opinions. My youngest daughter sclassroom aide is one.She is very kind and when the girls want to give her christmas presents she aceepts them graciously in the spirit of love these girls have for her.

*sigh* lambslove, Christians don't worship Christmas trees....

When did I say they did? I said they were objects of pagan worship. Not the same thing. Suppose I had an image of Buddha in my house that I decorated up with lights and stuff and said that I was celebrating Resurrection Day with it? Wouldn't you think I'd lost my mind? Decorating Buddha doesn't make it a Christian object! It's still an object of worship for a foreign god.

Ditto Christmas trees. It doesn't matter if I worship the tree, or worship the god associated with the tree, as long as I cling to it as a necessary part of my celebration of Christ, I am interweaving paganism into my faith.

I like Christmas trees

And I like cookies. But eating cookies isn't intermixing paganism with Christianity like having a Christmas tree is! Liking something isn't a good reason to defile your faith!

The fact recorded in the Bible is that Jesus celebrated PASSOVER, an ANNUAL holy festival and actually showed that the Jewish feast of unleavened bread was being celebrated by the Jews A DAY LATE!
Now explain how 'christians' DON'T celebrate passover at all but the pagan goddess Ishtar's festival INSTEAD and make out that Jesus was in the tomb ONLT TWO DAYS when he said THREE days and nights [also why did Mark's gospel get ALTERED to DENY this sign TOO as well as the common Easter paganism ?].... why would 'christians' want to make Christ out to be a deceiver instead of celebrating the holy festival of pasover that pointed to the significance of his death and which he told us to remember him by [if we are worthy to follow him.... many then are failing by following other celebrations that deny Christ's truth... some even celebrate weekly in Eucharist instead of yearly in passover]
Christmas is supposed to celebrate Christ's birth by doing sin, Easter celebrates Christ's death by calling him a liar..... someone has to see soon that this IS NOT RIGHT for followers of Christ!

I can't believe the nitpicking things some of you people are worried about. Instead of debating about christmas trees why don't you get involved in some more pro-active discussions, like the fact that there are a few billion people in the world who have never heard about Jesus, let alone are worried about the easter bunny.

The original Easter bunnies were sacrificed by having their throats slit to get the spirit of the goddess out in their blood and spread it on the land in a pagan fertility rite to the goddess Ishtar... this is one of the first of many Roman paganisms brought in to REPLACE the Holy Days recorded for witness in the Bible.... one of the most objectionable ideas in celebrating pagan Easter is that it tries to make out that Jesus did not keep the sign of Jonas as he had promised he would.

Was the saying "You can't see the forest, for the trees" talking about Christmas trees? Or regular trees? And, is it the ornaments that make a tree a Christmas tree, or the fact that it is in your home during December? What if you have a ficus tree in your home all year round? I am not trying to offend you, but I think this is just silly. That is just my opinion, and everyone should do what they are led to do.

I am so glad that you read that the way I intended, in a teasing, laughing kind of way! I wasn't making fun of anyone....or I didn't mean to. I got to thinking about it, and it sounded so smart-aleky, and I am worried I may have offended people who really feel strongly about this. I am sorry, if I did!!!!!

No! I love to laugh and mostly at myself! I give myself more occasions for ridicule than anyone else I can think of! Sometimes it spills over onto other people and the internet is a place where you can't see smiles, winks, or tones of voices and it's sometimes hard to get things across like you mean them. I think you probably understand! (P.S. It was all I could do to refrain from telling you that the Easter Bunny ate my ficus tree! )

Mark 7:8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men.....

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Oh man I could rebuttle rebuttle rebuttle.
First, The verse in Jerimiah that someone posted is talking about an asherah pole, not a chrtistmas tree. This pole was carved my workman and then worshipped after it was decekd in silver and gold.
Any one wearing a wedding ring?? Well guess what...that is also a Pagan tradition. Yup you guessed it that ring on your finger has pagan meaning behind it. Now...What that ring means to you is a totally differant story. Customs change, symbols change, ect ect....throughout the years.
The take on differant meanings. We have the right to celebrate Christ any day of the week. What ever day WE think might honor God we do it.
This is an endless conversation...I have been over it with my friend over and over and over it ...nothing changed...we see differant ways...and God has NOT given me the conviction to stop doing that I am doing. What makes one so holy as to say that what I am doing is wrong?
