I've been reading Leviticus lately. I am getting a little confused as to when we as New Testament christians should be observing the law and when we shouldn't.

We obviously dont go off and sacrifice animals for atonement etc anymore, but we do still not kill each other or commit adultery. We dont obey the eating laws (pork, ostrich and shell fish are all common menu items) - but we do obey the bits about not marrying your cousin or balspheming.

Perhaps you could either point me to another thread or provide some input for me.

Thanks

mmm ostrich... actually never had it..i would like to though... but anyways

Jesus says he didnt come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Jesus basically sums up all 700somethin laws in 2.

1. love the lord your god more than anything
2. love your neighbor as yourself.

if you think about it, to keep the faith is to keep the love.. thats about the only good advice hippies gave... and they stole it from Jesus!

Pursue God with all your heart, and keep the love..thats the law..

doubt i helped.. but if so... fantastistico!

Christ summed up all the law in these two laws . .

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Thes commandments go deeper and farther than the 10 commandments of Moses went . . so it is not a matter of why do we observe 'Moses' law . . but rather, how these two commandments of Christ go further . . it is not an either or .. The New is greater than the Old . . and requires more of us than the Old ever did!

Peace in Him!

So why are the adultery issues; 10 commandments etc. still preached -but not some of the others?

Is that just church pop culture?
if you look at the way jesus sum'd up the law, it takes into account of all the 10 commandements etc. If you love your wife, be faithful to her. If you love the random guy on the street do not steal from him. If you love your neighbor do not kill him... Common sense. When something about the law is taught in church it can be implemented in our lives. A christian life.

Hi

Good points made and if you truly love Elohim you will not forget to remember the 7th day Sabbath and keep it kodesh. For Yahshuah remembered it!!

Hi Tini.

You have to remember that there were civil and ceremonial laws under the old covenant and many of those laws were fulfilled in Christ and need not be adhered to any longer. The moral laws of course are still in effect such as worshipping God alone, not commit murder, adultery, etc.

I hope this helps.

Christ is our sabbath rest and we commemorate his resurrection by celebrating the sabbath on Sunday now not Saturday as the Jews did.

It takes time to learn and live Yahuah's laws. We were not raised up hearing torah read every Sabbath, therefore we will not be judged on what we did not hear. If you are beyond (grown in the faith) than those who were turning
to Elohim and received some laws pertaining to newbies, then take another step and learn how to keep the Sabbath and maybe clean food laws if you are led. In time this will lead you to keep the feast days as well.
You will be healthier too! But remember, doing so is not what saves you, it is just doing what Yahuah's people do in the faith of Yahshuah!

Shalom

"What the law says, it says to them who are under the law." "But you are not under the law but under grace, if so be that the spirit of Jesus Christ abides in you." Those who are under the law are still in their sins, "for by the law will no man be justified: The Just Shall Live by Faith." Ro 1

Just to clairify,
Grace means = Charitible Favor or in other words G-d's Fair Judgment.

Follow the laws, and ask for understanding...do not follow somthing you do not understand, but do not think of your self dead to the Holy Words of G-d.

Christ was sacrificed at the begining of time that all men might be judge with charity(a word which comes from the greek root, meaning "grace".)

If you would like PM, or post a law which confuses you, and I will address it...

I agree, but again that there is more . not only is God's Grace His favor . it is the infusion of His power into our souls to enable us to live according to His Word.

We do not simply follow the laws, we follow Him who gave Himself for us, we follow the law of LOVE.

The Saturday Sabbath was only for Israel, and Jews...not Gentiles. In fact, under halacha, a Gentile (or more appropriately "noachide") is not allowed to keep the Sabbath in the same manner as the Jews. Nor is a gentile required to do anything beyond observation of the 7 Noachide laws.

Then the real question is what makes a Israelite? ;) (not saying I agree)

Why do you not complete the spelling when you write the word, "G-od" in your sentences? I find that interesting.
