G-d is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

G-d was often referred to as a 'father' througout all of Jewish history, that is not something unique to the 'nt' alone. It is a Jewish concept that is quite ancient.

shalom,
yafet.

Was God the Father in the Old Testament? What was He called then? He at times talked of loving his people like a Father loves His child? Or was He always after His people for not doing works or keeping sacrifices and angry all the time? What was his nature, then? Did God have a different name then when He was more loving or just Lord? Or was God the Father only in the New Testament?
Yes He was and is, He was also the Son in a different form, Yeshua was there with Him all the time, so you can't say He was a mean G-d in the OT and a loving G-d in the NT. Same G-d, HoLY, Holy, and righteious all the way through the whole Bible which is one book, one story, not two as in the OT and NT, Man put that dividing paper there, not the L-RD.

He loved His people all the way back to Adam when He spoke of HIs commitment of HIs plan of salvation to return back to Him the way they wree before the fall. He was not "always after His people to do works and angry all the time". He wanted them to be obedient, ( still does) to be Holy ( still does) to keep themselve only unto Him and not serve other god ( still does) to have a relationship with Him (still does) to do what is right ( still does) but to do all from the heart (and still does).

For G-d is Hebrews 13
8 Y'shua HaMashciach the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Well, how close does God want to be to his people today? Or does he just send good things to them but not want close? Can you have a relationship with God or is it enough to believe that yeah he loves the world in general. Any way to be close to God or does that only work for preachers, priest or really good people? Or do you have to quote certain words to get God's attention? Or am I getting too far off the subject? Can you tell me alittle more about God?

The thing that strikes me is the profundity of simplicity with G-d. Moshe was direct in asking G-d his name. And though the answer “I am what I am,” seems (initially) a little lackluster for the great quest upon which both he and his prophet were about to embark, the phrase G-d used is anything but lacking in luster.

From the Hebrew phrase ‘ehyeh ‘asher ‘ehyeh we glean:

I am, I was, I will be

Who / What / Because / What pleases me

I am, I was, I will be

The entire spectrum is covered. From <yawn> I am what I please to be <ho hum> to

I AM BECAUSE I AM!

Denoting eternal self-existence.

Y’shua applied the name (literally HaShem) to himself: “I am, I was, and I am to come.”

In fact his full name is YHVH ShUa (Yehoshua = Salvation of YHVH or YHVH Saves).

Note the past present and future tied into the one name:

Isaiah 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith YHVH, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am, I was, I am to come: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 11 I AM I AM the I AM; and beside me there is no saviour.
(blue = interpretiion based on definition of YHVH)

Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

I am what I please to be...

Hi Debbi.

My guess is that because you even asked the question his Spirit has already been in contact with you which you manifested as curiosity. It's not so much who or what WE are, but who and what HE is. And the "certain words" are rather our learning about him as he really is (from his own testimony).

In legal terms I believe that would be called prima-facie evidence. And if you sincerely would like to know more, you have come to the right place. There are many people here who are well versed in that testimony I mentioned earlier.

Regards!

I consider it an honor to be among the learned posters here and do not myself deseve to be here. But I can share with you that God loves you. And that is why he contacted you... again, which manifested in you as curiosity.

Remember in that Jodi Foster movie "Contact" how the alien world tried to contact humanity? That's kind of the way it is with God. Humanity is so out of touch and out of synch with God that sometimes the ONLY way we can respond to him (especially initially) is with curiosity.

That's good! It's what he wants.

I am sure my more learned posters here can direct you further to solving your curiosity with sound and satisfactory answers.

Regards,
