yeah i know, it's hard to maintain interest when you can't even play the game. i dont necessarily mean an official guild, just a couple of people who are excited about the game and want to play with some fellow christians, so that we can share the same values

I've been on EQ for several years now, Saryrn Sever. I have a 65 monk, 60 necro, and a host of lvl 50ish toons. I love EQ for its depth (thank you VI, the people who actually made EQ), but I can't stand SoE for the bad CS, constant nerfs, lack of testing material before it goes live, fewer and fewer "GM events", out right lying to customers, etc. the list could go on and on. So, EQ2 is a definate "NO!" for me.

I beta tested Starwars G. Let me preface this by saying that I'm a die hard SW freak. My idea of a good time includes sitting around eating pizza with friends and seeing how much of the original trilogy we can quote from memory. So, I started beta testing SWG in beta phase 1. I hated it. I went back to EQ since I had friends and guild there, but would still mess around in beta... it was horrible up until release, and I knew I'd never buy it. One of my close friends said "If YOU don't like a Starwars game, I KNOW I won't like it." I'm not going to convince anyone not to buy EQ2 or SWG, but I will say let me warn you. Stay away from SoE products.

I played Dark Age of Camelot for about 3 months. Great game, but at the time I was playing it, they still hadn't finished the "end game" portion and nerfed xp from lvl 40 - 50 to slow player progression and to buy time. Not the most endearing move, but I wasen't too concerned. Then they nerfed my bezerker, who I had been playing with my roommate (who was playing a healer). I figured if I wanted to get nerfed, I'd stick with EQ since I still had a guild full of friends, so I dropped DAoC.

Note to any gaming companies trying to break in like Blizzard (WoW) and Square (FF XI): People have years invested in their toons and lots of friends in EQ. You will not pull many people away from EQ by launching unfinished, buggy, untested games which lack depth and nerfing things to oblivion within the first few months.

I also played Earth and Beyond for about 2 weeks. It had no depth and I personally found it boring.

I'm going to try FF XI tomorrow since many of my real life friends from EQ are trying. I am trying to keep my hopes low, but it is hard. I'm really hoping FFO can pull it off. WoW will be my last hope if FFO messes up (though I love Sqaure and all the FF games) but WoW isn't even in beta yet. It looks really nice so far, though

ROFL, yeah I saw you complaining on the forum that you couldn't ride your bantha.

Poor baby :p
Hah... no kidding. They're just so fuzzy. I'm settling for anything nowadays. All these bugs, patches, and waiting periods avoiding the next fatal NERF.

Yeah I hear you when it comes to buggy games. It seems like the more they improve these games the more bugs that get thrown into the mix. I’ve played EQ for a couple years and have seen a lot of bugs but at least they often deal with them fairly quickly compared to some of the other games. I’m on a wait and see basis with EQ2 but chances are I’ll give it a few months before I make a decision to stick with it or not. Having a ship is the big seller for me so if they do it right I may stick around.

Bugs have not been my biggest concern unless they are game stopping bugs. The thing that boils my blood is when they nerf and even sometimes constantly nerf everything in sight. In the case of EA/OSI with Ultima online you would get the idea that the developers are on some type of drugs. They have been so obsessed with nerfing that the countless bugs are always on the back burner. And ontop of it all they tried to convince us how great a job they were doing and told us they wanted to raise the subscription rate. After this last expansion I dry docked my fleet of ships and locked up my shop. Sadly a lot of other vets quit as well after that last expansion.

I haven’t been following WoW but I know a lot of people that will be playing it. It sounds like a fun game but I do not like dungeon instancing at all so I’m not sure if I’ll be trying WoW. Unfortunately a few of the major upcoming mmorpg’s will be using instancing so I’m a little leery about the future of some of these games. The developers are trying to sell instancing as an answer to over crowding but it seems like a quick easy fix to actually developing a well balanced game world. Why make 30 great dungeons when you only need a few that the players get all to themselves? Sure we can avoid the brats and griefers with instancing but we will also be avoiding many of the social aspects with meeting the other players in the dungeons. I’ve always gotten a big kick out of playing the good Samaritan and saving someone in my reach from their certain death. Time will tell I suppose...

I dunno... I like the instance dungeons we got in LDoN (the new EQ expansion) I have met more people in the last month than I have in the last year since I can usually get a pick up group to crawl with on my necro. My monk stays LFG for hours unless a guildie has pity on me, same as always. I still think melee need love in EQ.

Currently the only one I play is PristonTale. It's free for now, since the English version is in Beta :) http://eng.pristontale.com --- It's "OK" ..it looks like Ragnarok.

In the past I've played Anarchy Online, SWG. AO was a lot of fun. I played for a year or 2, but ran out of money, lack of a job. I'm kinda glad though, because MMRPGs *do* eat up a lot of your time if you're not careful.

I was in Axis when I quit. Unfortunately they didn't kick me from the guild after the name change(Black Death Union). I don't like the name.. lol

SWG was fun for the month I played it. The "grinding" was a bit annoying though. I admit.. I started using a 3rd party program to do the work for me lol.. but due to lag & other issues(running out of resource, etc.) it didn't work too well. I was a Weaponsmith. I also tried Image Designer just so I could change my own hair.

The only one I'm looking forward to is City of Heroes. ( http://www.coh.com ) The screenshots & movies are great. I can't wait :) ..but I'll have to be careful so it doesn't eat too much time ^_^

I would absolutely love to play a MMORPG but I don't have the means to pay for the services. I don't have a credit card and I'm not even going to try and ask my parents to pay for it.

So it seems I won't be playing any MMORPGs anytime soon unfortunately. :(

You can play PristonTale. It doesn't have all the features that most have, but it's something at least & free :) -- see my previous post for a link. (When signing up, it's a little tricky when entering your b-day. I forget which you have to do first(day/month/year). Just mess with it til it works ^^.)
