I need some help! I play 6 string guitar and I play at a church and the music leader makes me do all these hard song that have alot of flats in them and I just don't feel like I'm doing a good job at playing bar chords on them and I don't know how to turn it into capo. So if any of you want to give me some help on this it would be greatly needed. If you'll know a web site that would show me the chords i'm playing when I put on capos that would help.

You know A, A#/Bb, B, C, C#/Db, D, D#/Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#/Ab? If the capo is on fret 5, you'll be playing 5 notes above the chord. So let's say your playing a D#, you'll have to count five notes above D# to determine the chord your actually making. 1 - E, 2 - F, 3 - F#, 4 - G, 5 - G# or Ab.

If you play A one fret higher you will not be playing Ab. You will be playing A#...
If you play G one fret higher then you will be playing Ab. I'm sure this is what chrisforshort meant. I just wanted to make sure that it was clear so no one is confused...

So, if you put the capo on the first fret and play G, you will be playing an Ab chord (which is the same as G#) If you play D you will be playing D# or Eb. And if you play C it will make is C# or Dd.

I know a good place to print up guitar chords but am still too new to post links. If you contact me, I'll pass it on to you.

BTW, I just got a capo in the mail today. I lost mine about a month or 2 ago. I go jamming once a month at the art center here in town. Must have set it down. I put my name and phone number on my new one (using masking tape & a "Sharpie" pen to write on the front). I have a way of setting things down and forgetting about them. Hope someone honest finds it if I do that again. I'm lost w/o my capo. I'm OK on the guitar (capo-less) because I can play in quite a few keys, but I also play the 5-string banjo and it's pretty much a "G" instrument w/o a capo. (I'll play the banjo in "C" once in a blue moon when I'm feeling creative). ;)
