After falling into temptation and looking at inappropriate contentography a couple weeks ago, I quickly removed Kazaa off of my system. Ever since, I have not had much desire to go back to inappropriate contentography (and I really scolded myself for doing it before). I get most of my music off of Kazaa though, and software that I cannot pay for as well.
I believe inappropriate contentography is wrong. It is adultry... it is lust... it is pure sin. I'm not even going to touch on that, as I am not going to look at it anymore on any program or movie or magazine or whatever.
About the music and software though, I have been tempted to install it again... not for inappropriate content, but to get the music I want and the files I need.
After thinking it over for a while, I came to a dead end. Does God consider downloading music and files off of Kazaa to be stealing? What is the difference between taking a cd out of a store and downloading? It's the exact same thing for software as well. These are just my feelings, and I wanted to know what some of yours were.
I talked to a friend about it, and here are his responses:
Stealing to me is something physical....not a computer program....where you are getting ripped off if you buy it because half the time it won't work....
To me, companies are stealing more from you when you buy there cheap programs, whos to say that its stealing....people share programs with each other all over the place, they just don't do it via the internet, someone might have a CD and then make a copy and give it to friends
See if you wanna get techinical, taping songs off a radio would be considered piracy..even if you just wanted to listen to it... taping a movie from TV just in case you missed it is piracy, so that argument Kazaa is illegal is stupid.
The RIAA is just a bunch of arrogant people who think they should rule the world.
So what are your opinions on this issue? I'm not going back to look at inappropriate content, but i'd really like to get the music and software I want for free. (If I had a million dollars, things would be different, but I dont.) Before I go back and install Kazaa and download music for my own enjoyment and software to fix my computer, I want to know for sure how serious or not serious this is. I believe(d) that stealing was stealing in God's eyes, but when it comes to digital media, does it really matter? I dont want to be breaking the "Thou Shalt Not Steal" commandment.
Please give me your feedback!
Thanks!
