It seems just about every place I go lately, I hear about the subject of Halloween . . .
Whether it be around church, bible study or on the message boards here on the 'net.
Everyone seems to be concerned with whether or not they should celebrate Halloween.
You hear and read about how it is an evil holiday and how Christians shouldn't celebrate it or have anything to do with it.
Well I got to thinking about the idea of Halloween this morning as I was sipping my coffee.
I thought about how all those little kids out there get dressed up and put on their little costumes . . .
How they masquerade around behind these little masks . . .
They go off to Halloween parties or go out trick or treating . . .
And how not a single one of them attaches any evil thoughts to the holiday.
Instead they are innocently masquerading around hidden behind these little masks saying trick or treat in the hopes of getting a small treat.
But the adults are all concerned with how evil the holiday is.
How Christians should not celebrate the holiday because of the evil and the darkness it signifies.
And yet so many of these adults are masquerading around just like those kids every day of their lives.
They put on their masks and try to disguise themselves as Christians . . .
But are they really Christians?
Have they truly repented of their sins?
Or do they simply claim to be saved and still walk in the same old sinful ways?
Have they changed their ways so they will walk more closely with the Lord?
Do they show love, compassion and forgiveness to others?
Or do they simply hide behind the mask and claim to be Christians?
Perhaps instead of pointing out everything that is wrong with Halloween . . .
We should be looking to see what masks we ourselves may be hiding behind.
Just a thought over coffee.
