What are you insulting me for mrstace? If you don't like my answers, it's okay to gloss by them. I'm not even offering advice, I'm speaking only of my own situation. I'm not trying to tickle anyone's ears.
lambslove,

I am not insulting you. I am sorry that you think that I am. I like you and respect your comments, else I would not reply to you. I do not want to be responsible for upsetting anyone on the CF boards.

You show a great deal of wisdom in all of your comments, and I was hoping that you had some big secret as how to bypass this God given desire. I know that one does not exist, and is was just wishful thinking. Therefore I was just kidding with you.

I just meant to humor you. I do respect you, and I am sorry that my comment was taking wrongly.

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss more.

Oh, I'm sorry. :O

It's so hard to tell from just voiceless posts when someone is kidding or when they are being mean. I'll go back and delete my previous post. I know what it's like to be misunderstood here. :)

I am like the queen of those periods!! hahaha but seriously, I know what you mean. Because right now, I am sooooooooo happy being single... and thats the truth! Now if you would have asked me that about a month ago, it would have been a different story... and yes there have been many times where I have wanted to turn off the switch!!

I j ust really hope thatI can be content with being single till February... I just want to concentrate on God till then... He will keep me strong :D

It will be the right time and the right person!!! During my singleness, I like to think of it as God preparing me for my spouse so that I will truly be a Crown to His Head, honor him, a wise woman builds her house, prefering him, a capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman.......

Do you ever wish you could just turn that desire off? Just say "I don't want to deal with this, and flip the switch and turn it off".
No, that desire is what drives me to be better than I am.

I'd love to turn that desire off. Up until recently, I've been able to say that I only think about meeting that special someone maybe 3 or 4% of the time. Unfortunately it seems like love is in the air up here in northern New York where I go to college; either people are starting to date, planning weddings, interested in maybe dating and the like, and it seems like there's nowhere I can go to escape it. It seems like I'm being bombarded by romantic love everywhere I turn my head and I'm just tired of it. It's very difficult to be patient when it seems like everyone around me is getting together with someone else, and it gets more frustrating than anything.

I feel the same way, Jeff. I have three friends getting married on three of four consecutive weeks coming up this spring. I'm genuinely happy for all of them, but it is very frustrating. Like others posting here, I have my times when I'm perfectly fine being single, and other times when I'm not so fine. I'm just going to continue to hold out for the person God has set aside for me and try my best to be patient in doing so.

Thanks for understanding. It's hard for me to even be happy for people about it, partly because it seems to be about all that folks really talk about sometimes, and it just intensifies my own desire to find someone. Seems like it's being rubbed in my face sometimes. And I think it kinda makes me feel even worse when folks talk about how God did this and that to bring them together. Good for them and good that they give God the glory, but it makes me want to shout "When me, Lord?!" sometimes, ya know?

Yes, I know. The friend that I'm around most goes to school w/ me, as does her fiancee. Sometimes I wonder if they should even be getting married. They aren't Christian, so I don't listen to them talk about how God has put them together, etc. as you do with your friends. Thankfully, she doesn't spend 24 hours a day talking about the wedding...that would be really hard. The lonliness can be really bad sometimes, but I'm just trying to trust God. I'm new to the forum and am always looking for new friends, so feel free to IM or email me.

What college do you go to, is it a very large one? Even though your friend and fiancee aren't Christians, it must be a small relief not to hear about how God's put them together. More than anything, it kinda depresses me because it makes me wonder if and when He'll put me together with someone. But why don't you think that they should be together? Thanks, I'm always looking to meet some new people, myself! I'll drop you a PM, and feel free to IM or email me, as well. What's your name?

hey brother,
To answer your question, yes I believe it's possible, as I think I have done so myself. In my walk with God, I have taken a vow of celibacy, and am even thinking of making it life long and becoming a Catholic monk. I want to focus all my energy on following God, and in doing so, my desires to be with a woman have become less and less important to me, which is amazing because there is nothing more that I want than to be loved by another woman, and that is the very thing I have given up to God. If I was to remain single for the rest of my life in order to better walk in God's will, then I embrace that with all my heart!
