The Devil will tempt us but cannot for us to do anything- we have a free moral agent- a free will-- in the end the fault is ours.

The Bible says not ot even give place to the devil- that is do say dont even give him a foot hold or a place to sit down.
He will not allow us to be tempted above that which we are able to resist- but with every temptation he will provide a means to escape
Resist the devila dn he will flee from you

:)

The world and the flesh are problems also when it comes to sin itself, not only the devil. I have been writing a chapter of an online book (which I will eventually put online someday) about the Aum cult and the "why" of its terror attack on the subway.
So when I saw this I thought I'd share a little of my opinion on this subject.
The devil's part of the attack, since he is a liar and the father of lies and a murderer from the beginning, would have been the "poa" doctrine itself that gave a religious motive and a Buddhist "sanctification" for cold blooded murder.
The flesh's part of the attack was the members' desire to be seen as "heroes" by their guru and fellow members combined with the paranoia, delusion, and drugged brains of the members.
The world's part of the attack was the recipe and ingredients for one of the deadliest substances known to man, the scientists' knowledge in how the weapon was to be made, and the promotion of violence that permeates Japanese culture.

I hope that made some sense to you, because that will be a part of my book when it is finally finished, a part of my attempted explanation for such horrible evil. :(

Many of our problems stem from our imperfect and sinful nature. Yes, I think sometimes the devil does get too much credit sometimes. Some people seem to think he is omnipresent and omnipotent--but he's not. I think that even if the devil and the demons were banished from the earth people would still go on sinning, because we are sinners by nature.

I agree. And I have to admit that Satan has never had to bother with me much, because I have enough struggles with my flesh! He sees me wrestling with myself all the time, and must feel I am not much of a threat to his purposes.

Lord, help me produce the fruit of self-control!

All this is well and good, but remember, the devil is THE ONE who first made Eve taste that apple and she in turn Adam.

It started with temptation from Satan. Satan is the Author of all that is evil. He tempts us, and we choose to sin or not to sin.

1 Peter 5
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Where'd you get this idea. It's not scriptural.

Things that appear bad, at the time it is happening, can come from God and things that, at the time, appear good can come from Satan - he is a deceiver.

Our God is not only a God who heals, but he is also a God who wounds and causes calamity. Even though God's testing is for our growth, it does not seem good when we are going through it.

Isaiah 45:7
The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the LORD who does all these.

Job 5:17-18
Behold, how happy is the man whom God reproves, So do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.
18 For He inflicts pain, and gives relief; He wounds, and His hands also heal.

when jesus died on the cross it says he
SPOILED THE POWERS OF SATAN AND DARKNESS.
he triumphed over them.
jesus said that WE have been given POWER or AUTHORITY over all the power of the enemy to trample on him and that nothing should ever hurt us.

if we christians ever reach the fullness of that. then satan will be broken. we will have utter mastery over him!
does that mean that satan has no power? and that we shouldnt be not careful of him? absolutely not.

in rev 13.2 it says that satan gives the antichrist his POWER, SEAT AND AUTHORITY. satan does have power, he does have authority in this earthly realm given over to him by adam.
one of the greatest men of god in the bible was Job.
GOD BRAGGED ABOUT JOB! HOW OFTEN DOES GOD BRAG ABOUT YOU?!
haha, man, that will preach.
anyway, job was an awesome man!
but even job, as awesome as he was saw satan AS A LEVIATHAN.
and if you read the terrible description he gives of satan.
you will see that satan is not someone to take lightly.
he is not some powerless imp.
i do not believe that job was correct in everything he said about satan, but that is how job felt in the midst of his struggle and pain. satan did so much to him that he felt satan was awesome!
but nevertheless, we are more than conqueres, we can overcome him and beat him at his best if we are walking in the might of the lord.

yes we are more than conqueres, yes we do have the ability to overcome, yes we can beat the devil.
but you wait untill the devil hits you one good time, and then see how bold you feel. you may have the demon say JESUS I KNOW AND PAUL I KNOW, BUT WHO ARE YOU? AND END UP RUNNING AWAY BUTT NAKED!

somepeople are like IM GONNA GO CAST A DEMON OUT PRAISE GOD!
or REALLY?

i know that i myself look up to my mentors greatly, men whove worked for the lord, and have cast out demons, men i consider to be GREAT men of god. yet, some will tell you that they have encountered certain demons that they could not overcome.
it was a spirit of religon, that had hold over a certain regoin. mark (a pastor of myne) said he bound, rebuked, cast out, did everything he knew to do, but, he simply didnt have enough in him to overcome that demon.

i know you may not consider my story as very much, and thats ok, but i think it is a good example.

Hmm.... I've got some light to shed on the topic at hand.

Luk 22:31 Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat:
Luk 22:32 but I made supplication for thee, that thy faith fail not; and do thou, when once thou hast turned again, establish thy brethren.

Notice what Satan did. Satan didn't demand Jesus, nor did Satan force Jesus. He did what? Asked.

This scripture teaches me that God uses Satan's evil and twists and and uses it for God. (Which must really annoy the devil...) So basically Satan does nothing without the permission of God. God allows us to be tempted, so that we may overcome it! Look at Luke 22:32. Here, Jesus says loosly, "I have prayed that you won't lose your faith! Help your brothers be strong when you come back to me"

I find it very comforting and encouraging, that Jesus is praying for -us-.
