Fox News, we decide that you don't get the truth?

I was wondering how many of you watch fox news as your main source of information <this question doesn't count those who watch it because it makes them angry>, and why? I hear a lot of stuff on these boards about left wing socialist media, but they seem to get more of the truth than the right wing media does. Perhaps it would be wise to watch left wing media, and decide for yourself what is spin and what is fact; rather than have fox do it for you?

I watch CNN Headline News when I want actual straight fact reporting and infobits. Fox when I want to watch people arguing or hear their views on a subject. They're not half bad in the AM hours when they actually do report the news but during primetime it's just alot of opinions on the news.

yeah, i know. When i get up in the morning, i get your prime time TV from there on cable, so that's mostly what i see of fox. But i do know people here, and many people overall use it as their main and/or only source of news. I was just wondering why, given the high percentage of misinformation people are receiving.

The study, IMO, has some slight bias in it. The claim that the US "has... found clear evidence Saddam Hussein was working closely with al-Qaeda" is subjective. There are some reports of al-Queda leaders meeting with Iraqi officials during the 90s. To some people (although I am not one of them) this may be "clear evidence" of a link. Hence they have evaluated the evidence and reached their own conclusion; they aren't necessarily getting anything wrong. The article does not cite the question involving WMDs but I assume a similar situation to be involved there. To some people, those van thingees are ample evidence that Saddam had a bio-weapons program; thus the question is again subjective. It is not the fault of those people that those who performed the study do not agree that those examples are "clear evidence".

If you want fair news, don't watch US mainstream media. All major news stations are biased in some way, and often don't do real reporting, but instead read what others want them to read. Reading many books regarding stories of various reporters, many don't want to air the 'real' info (on any subject). Some are afraid of lawsuits, others have conflict of interests, and some just don't even want to bother.

Look for independent sources if you want some decent news. :)

Bingo.

It seems that the US media since 9/11, has lost it's nerve to ask at times the more than obvious follow up question.

oh, of course the test is somewhat "biased", but people's interpretations are interesting. It's pretty much impossible to be completely objective. But still, what fox news reports has a lot to do with this, ad even if they aren't telling straight up lies, there's still implications. i don't see how else this study could reflect this.

well, I checked out their website foxnews.com (which arguably isn't the same as the network tv), and the news articles are as far as I can tell fair and balanced.

but I think most people feel that fownews the network tv is anything but fair and balanced.

BTW, speaking of Fox News and Rupert Murdoch, who is a outward Republican supporter of a party that emphasizes family vaules with a strong base among Christians, but yet his channel is steeped with teenage veiwer targeted reality shows, where promiscuous situations are the norm and more that likely encouraged for ratings?

Where's Mr. Morality Bill Bennet when you need him?
Oh that's right, reeling from the gambling disclosures.

Great link ju'iblex. Many of us know that Fox is neither fair nor balanced, but I really hadn't seen any studies that showed how their disinformation was affecting the public. It's truly frightening.

And the people who buy into this idea that Fox news is the only news worth watching seem to come right out of some Orwellian nightmare. "The liberal media is double unplus good"....

Any idiot who uses television news as their one and only source deserves the ignorance it will breed in them. I'm in the Conservative Right Wing classification, but I don't blindly follow any news station. I cull what I can off the web, mainly from news portols or newspaper sites across the globe. That gives you a pretty wide view of the news.

Many conservatives have found fox news to be enlightening. Sick to death of the liberal media they have migrated over to fox. I am not saying fox is entirely balanced, but neither is CNN or ABC for that matter. I have heard polls of media/reporters, that like (guessing because I forget the exact statistic)97% or more are democrats, and social liberals. No one is unbiased.

Y'know, the title of this thread is offensive. I think I'm going to call my lawyer and see if I can sue someone because my feelings are hurt. I like FoxNews - but I watch a lot of other news too. Is Fox deliberately lying? That's what the title suggests. Asia Times? Who decides if they're telling the truth? Knowledge Networks? Sounds like a mind control outfit.
"We decide you don't get the truth" LOL - what a crock.

I'm conservative and I've (still) said for a couple of years now: Until genuine objectivity returns (ha ha ha... *sighs*), don't blindly trust any media today. Gather your information from a number or sources among the Right (i.e. Fox) and Left (i.e. CNN), filter out the spins where you can, recombine the facts, and you'll start to get back to the full truth.

But keep in mind, as well:

All news media, especially in broadcast, is supported by advertising revenues, so the more viewers/listeners they gather, the more money they make. This (rather than any semblence of morality/ethics, in many cases) ultimately decides what airs and what's promoted (there's an old saying - "if it bleeds, it leads"). Take the world seriously to a point, but keep in mind that many stations want to scare you into feeling dependent upon them for further information (even if this means propagating needless paranoia).

There's nothing wrong with keeping up with current events, but don't let yourself get 9-11 syndrome. Remember to turn off the TV/radio, pick up your Bible, and hang out with God (outdoors, ideally, if the weather's decent). He's much easier to hear when we're not distracted by chatter about "terror", "the economy", et cetera. ;)
