I absolutely love to debate. Especially about evolution. I know enough about evolution, but not all the details. I'm in biology at school this semester and we will be studying evolution. Also, when I debate, I am constantly seeing people putting down creationism and rationalizing evolution. I never even started looking at evolution at all until I started debating. Right now I am still 100% creation, and I don't think I'll change my mind. Every one tells me that when I get older I'll start to rationalize it out and see why the scientists are right, but I don't want to. Unlike all the non-christians on this site, I believe creation only by faith. I don't need scientific evidence (although I have found quite a bit of it for the sake of debate). People tell me I should study evolution so that I will better understand it. I'm just afraid of being pulled into it. I used to think I was invulnerable and that nothing could sway me, but I just came out of a time when I was having some trouble with my relationship with God and I really don't want to take that chance. I'm worried about biology too. Please give me some advice and pray for me if you will. Thanks!

Hi Seremela, I will pray for you. I know that you say you like to debate, but the best advice I can give is to stay in God's word. When you read it, you'll realize that it really isn't something to debate, but something to accept in faith. You can't really argue for Christianity, you can only accept Christ's love and share that love with others.

If you are concerned that you might slip into evolutionary thinking, then refresh yourself in what God says and pray.

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Psalm 1:1-3

Thanks a lot! I know that I should stay in the word and lately I've really been on fire for God (I just came out of a fairly challenging time when my relationship was lacking) and I'm studying Genesis and Revelation. Thanks for praying!

Hi Seremela,

I wouldn't even waste the time with evolution; it's just the devil's lie to deny God as being the creator of all things.

You know what blows me away? How a person is conceived... two tiny little elements, and it grows into a full blown human being, who can be educated, communicate with other human beings, reason, think, have feelings, be joyful, sad, speak, see, feel, eat, etc. I think I heard of a doctor who delivered babies say that every baby is a 100% miracle, without exception!!! :amen:

In Christ,
Bobby

Keep doing the things you are doing...but remember to look at things from other people's point of view also. And when you study evolution in school...try not to debate with your teacher...the school tells them what to teach on, they have little choice to teach or not teach something.

When the debate comes up, simply ask the evolutionists to provide an explanation for where the mass came from that became the big bang. Mass cannot come from nothing, so if there was a bang and everything was just "there", where did the initial mass come from? They'll dance around with that one for a while. Then remind them that they are accepting evolution by faith, because there is no irrefutible proof that evolution is valid.

OK I must ask...does no one here believe evolution to be true? I absolutely believe it, albeit with God as the mastermind and driving force behind it. Not to say that scientists have it all down..I'm sure we dont completly understand it yet. But why must a Christian believe that evolution is a lie from Satan? Why can't it be part of God's handiwork? I guess the story of Creation is Genesis must be literal? I don't understand...to me it is a beautiful testament to God's work here on earth. But everything from God doesn't have to be BOOM! There is a sheep. Why couldn't the sheep have evolved from somethign else?

I believe what the Word of God tells me... if it says that God created the heavens and the earth and all the animals on it and that He created us human beings after His own image... then I'm not going to believe that it "evolved"...

There are two issues in confronting evolution.

The first is that many people hold to a philosphy of life that believes matter is all there is (materialism). This is not a scientifically proven 'fact' as we just don't know everything yet, so it too is a 'faith'. For such people evolution has to be true.

As for science itself, it depends of theory and facts that lead to 'proofs'. The evaluation of scientific theories is done by scientists themselves. Both Christians and non Christians are involved in this purely as scientists.

There are many Christian scientists who raise valid concerns about the reasonableness of the philosphy of materialism. For the, current scientific knowledge supports the reasonableness of a Creator rather than a random sequence of events as the origin of 'nature'.

It is really important to distinguish bewteen science and a philosophy based on scientific methodology.

I believe the Bible to be the true Word of God but I have no problem in believing that things evolved. Anything which is from satan is that which separates us from God, and for me, believing in evolution does not separate me from God or cause me to sin, so I can't see how it is evil or a lie.

There are Christians who believe in a form of evolution - theistic evolution. I am not one of them, but if you'd like to talk with some of them, you can find several at the Theistic Evolution section of the Origins Theology forum on this site.

A really GREAT book that I've read about evolution and creation is the book

The Case for a Creator by Lee Strobel

The book looks at the strongest arugments of evolution and trys to contradict or disprove creation because of them. You'd be surprised to learn that the book talks about how most scientists are becoming Christians because of the huge amount of evidence that points directly to a creator. And that most of the arugments for evolution do not even stand up when put to the test. The book is written by a christian in search for the true facts about evolution and creation.

I definatly suggest reading it. Also, debating is GREAT! But if you're trying to "win" someone over to Christ by putting down their belief system and trying to disprove them, it doesnt usually work out. Our actions need to speak louder than our words. Always preach but when in need, use words!

I think that when someone is taught about evolution they are taught that since the world created itself, there is no need for a creator. But as christians we obviously believe that God created the world, therefore it could not of created itself. Did God allow for creation to adapt to their environments and weather patterns? Yah! probably, but creation could not have started itself from nothing to become the world we live in today.

Christians on CF generally accept one of the following positions:
  1. Young Earth Creation: literally as in Genesis.
  2. Old Earth Creation: those seven days were really seven ages.
  3. Gap Theory: there's a loooong gap between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2, so the 6 days were 6000 years ago, but the earth itself is older.
  4. Theistic Evolution: evolution, but God made it all happen.
You will have to make up your own mind, depending on your theological and epistemological position.
