Private schools can make determinations on what literature to read based on religious preferences - public school cannot, at least in America. We have that pesky 1st Amendment thing.
Or at least the sloppy interpretation that serves the left wing best.

Christian worship services would be bad for the well being of my children. I should protest these and stop them shouldn't I. I don't get the attitudes of indivudals like you who try to blockade those who view things differently then you.

The Harry Potter series has done much to get young people and some not so young people interested in reading books.

I agree with what one of the posters said earlier--I'm not sure that they have attained the status necessary to use them as a primary classroom text, but they certainly would be appropriate for a book report.

Just out of curiosity CrownCaster, have you ever read any of the Harry Potter books?

Lets see. demon worship=seperation from God. Seperation from God=eternity in hell. Yep, I would say that is pretty detrimental.

Ok crowncaste rif you havnt noticed some of these people dont belive the same way you do and you should resect there opinon not say there wrong ccause there a wiccan or some other non christian based faith. Were here to decid if HP should be taught in school not to bash other religions. To it bein taught in schools we should be foucused on these subjects like, will it help kids get intristed in reading, will it help there grammer skill and so on. Wether it be good or evil, if a book can be good or evil, dose not matter. If you dont like what a school is teaching and want your kids to live under a rock just to one day go out into the real world and be so darn confused that they have a nervous break down, then start home schooling em.

Does the bashing ever stop CrownCaster? You went and shut down another religion's services? Are you crazy?! How would you feel if someone came into your church and said that your services were detrimental to the well being of the community, and that it needed to be shut down. You would be appalled, I'm sure, as would I. You cannot shut down someone's religious services just because you don't agree with them. There's a little something called "open-mindedness"; maybe you should practice that because you're not very good at it.

Not to mention uneducated about other religions...

Yes, I fought until it was not brought in. I would do it again. Openminded? Please. I quit being so p.c. when I left high school. There is right and there is wrong. I will not stand by and watch people go to hell without saying something.

Bashing? No, not bashing. Being concerned for others well being.

Way to go winning people to Christ, CrownCaster. So it's too pc to treat others of different beliefs with respect? No, I guess not. They're too stupid to figure out the truth so we should make fun of them. Plus, if we deny them religious freedom and rights to let their children explore subjects that are "bad" then maybe they won't have any choice but to turn Christian! Yeah, that's the way to do it!

This thread has been good for a laugh or two...I don't for a minute believe anything said about demon worship services being introduced to kids at a facility that required anyone to fight against it. Perhaps someone could provide links to the newspaper articles something like this would surely have generated? WOW! The imaginations of some people, especially those who need to cast themselves as 'superhero' always amaze me

Keep it up tho...the things some people claim rival the antics of the fictional characters in Harry Potter and are almost as entertaining to me :).

Not everything has to be taken to a level of getting media attention and here in Utah the division of youth corrections has some serious issues with bad publicity. The facility was the wasatch youth center. The wiccan was the wife of a norse asatru who did manage to get his thing cleared. I think it was made easier when the woman came in with her witch gear on for halloween to give a presentation of what wicca and halloween are to her. Don't remember her name but the norse guy is named rex. She did come in a couple times with her husband and waved her magic wand with a crystal on the end around, drawing pentagrams and hailing the "gods of the watchtowers of the E.S.W.N." and such. They even came in for their version of communion once. Some kind of cup cake and apple juice. Then they would pull out the rhunes and things would get kind of funny. The little moaning he would do as he passed his hand over the bag would about put me over the edge every time. He would come in every two weeks and I would make sure I was the one who would supervise his group so I could pray the entire time over every person in the room. She was never able to get a service of her own set up because there was too much opposition. I am not the only one who voiced great concern and I would report every single thing that I felt was inappropriate for the setting. I knew a couple of Christian parents also who would bring things up and make complaints. It is okay if you do not believe me. That is not what I posted it for. Originally I posted it to respond to a post saying I had never heard of wicca. It has just been blown up by everyone since then. Good day.

Ah CC, from Utah, much is now explained!

Other folk have right to worship as they see fit, further (outrageous as this may seem) the laws of the land allow them to worship whoever they deem fit, yahweh, Allah, Odin, Cerenos, Jim next door. If you don't like that then don't worship with them.

Was anybody being forced to go? If yes, then that's wrong, but why shouldn't people be allowed to practice their own religions if they want to? What business is it of yours?

Demon worship? Wow, you sure know a lot about Wicca. You must've done some serious research to come to such an enlightened conclusion. *more sarcasm*

If you feel the need to DEBATE this topic, I'll gladly participate.

But if you're here to flame other religions and make unfounded claims, your time can be better spent preaching to your fellow Christians rather than insulting what you think are the beliefs of others. I don't sacrifice your babies to Beelzebub & I don't worship Satan.

I've read the Bible and I'm not a Christian...reading a book doesn't determine your religion...and I'd pity anyone who thought Harry Potter had anything to do with real witchcraft.

so you are saying that you purposefully disrupted the religious services taking place at this corrections center.

Tell me, how would you respond to these individuals insisting on attending religious services put on by your sect/cult and “praying over” everyone in the room?
