What can we do to stop animal abuse?
It breaks my heart as how animals are treated.
I believe in spaying and neutering pets.
My thoughts is there should be a 6 month jail sentence if anyone abuses any pet.
I also believe the humane society should get the pets spayed and neutered before they leave the facility.
There is answers but no one comes through.
If someones mistreats animals I automatically am very skeptical of them as a person.
Animals should have rights too.

6 months in jail? Heh. I used to support the death penalty for severe animal abuse. I dont anymore, but I still think hard jail time is necessary.

I too seriously doubt people that abuse animals as human.

I really don't know what can be done. Spaying and neutering only goes so far when it comes to stopping a sicko from going out and buying a pet to abuse it.

I HATE animal abuse!!

i found this on punishment for abuse according to state. Apparently in mine(california) whether its misdemnor or felony, the person would have to pay a $20,000 fine and up to a year in prison!!

I will look at the link and thank you.
People here in this town get pets don't spay or neuter and let then run.
They don't feed them and they are always dogs in heat.
So that makes for lots of hungry abused puppies.
If anything would make me hate the south it is the way people have no respect for animals and some seem to enjoy abusing them.
This past summer the humane society had a like of funding so they opened the doors and let them run.
They were saying people from many states were coming in to adopt them but it was not true.
I wound up with about 10 in my front yard.
They have been hit by cars and one woman lost her life because a dog ran in front of their car her husband was driving and he swerved.
I am just sick about all of this so if people would spay and neuter their pets there would not be so many in heat having puppies.
I don't know much about Peta but have considered looking into it.We need laws and to uphold the law make it real what good is laws that are not enforced?

Thank you draper glad to see others that care, now if only something would be enforced to protect these innocent loving creatures.

We can get rid of chemically created soaps, shampoo's and medicines to avoid animal testing, and teach people about the benefits of kindness and love to avoid people beating the pets.

I believe in spaying and neutering pets.
Nuu! The first step to stopping animal abuse is to view them as living creatures. Do you think you, as a human being, should be spayed/neutered because somebody else doesn't want you having babies?

Spaying and neutering does NOT calm a pet down, like people think: it simply gets rid of the "over population" of animals on this Earth.

My thoughts is there should be a 6 month jail sentence if anyone abuses any pet.
If somebody beats/kills/murders and animal, they should be treated like those that beat/kill/murder children.

I also believe the humane society should get the pets spayed and neutered before they leave the facility.
Then we won't have any animals for the next generation.

There is answers but no one comes through.

Yes, they should. Like the right to have babies.

I agree with some people that animals aren't exactly human, and so shouldn't have the right to, say, vote on the president. But they should get more respect. They are living beings with hearts, minds, and souls. We should treat them like our children.

I have pets and had them all my life.
I don't like puppy mills and believe me there will always be enough animals to go around.
I have 5 dogs and all have been spayed and neutered.
Spaying and neutering most certainly does calm pets down.
Not only does it calm them down it keeps them from producing more unwanted puppies or kittens.

They are definitely living breathing animals but they are not capeable of making decisions....
Like Spot the dog says... I think I plan to have 6 children and then I will get my tubes tied...HAHA This is a scarcastic joke just in case someone is not sure.
My dogs are house dogs and I have volunteered at animal clinic so I do know a little about pets.
I want to know what to do to keep animals from multiplying and being abused.

All vets will tell you to get your pets spayed and neutered.

This reply above was certainly one thing I agree with.

I haven't gone a single year without multiple pets.

I just got rid of a neutered dog because he wouldn't calm down. He's not the first. I've had neutered dogs run after other peoples dogs, even.

It's age that calms dogs down. Sometimes neutering them does calm them down (perhaps because of trauma), but more often than not, I've seen neutered dogs acting exactly the same as before.

But didn't God say to be Fruitful and Multiply? Animals are capable of making decisions. My dog decides every day to wake me up at 6:30 exactly, and my cat decided that she liked my wolf blanket a lot better than the one with the tiger on it, despite the fact that they were both bought at the same time as a pair.

My dogs are house dogs and I have volunteered at animal clinic so I do know a little about pets.

Why do we want to keep animals from multiplying? Should we keep humans from multiplying too?

All vets will tell you to get your pets spayed and neutered.
And doctors tell you to get an abortion. But that doesn't make it right.

This reply above was certainly one thing I agree with.

You know what I wrote this thread to get answers and you are acting silly.
You got rid of a neutered dog because he wouldn't settle and he is not the first!
I make a commitment when I get an animal and if he is a problem I will work it out.
Sounds as if the problem is not the dog.
If you like debates go to apologetics.... this is how to help abused animals and you are not helping and off the subject.

Maybe you should go to apologetics and make a thread on why pets should not be spayed and neutered.
After all they can make their own decisions.
*Oh yes they should be fruitful and multiply must not forget that.*

I'm acting silly? I gave my answers to your thread. What do you think that first post was? But I'm not going to sit by and watch you throw a hissy fit because I disagree with neutering a pet.

You got rid of a neutered dog because he wouldn't settle and he is not the first! I make a commitment when I get an animal and if he is a problem I will work it out.
He was killing my other dogs. As much as I loved him, I could not keep him. I gave him to my neighbours, and elderly couple who will pamper him like he wants to be pampered.

Sounds as if the problem is not the dog.
LOL. I'm sorry, but I just found this statement funny.

If you like debates go to apologetics.... this is how to help abused animals and you are not helping and off the subject.
I'm off the subject? You're the one who attacked because I disagreed with neutering dogs.

Maybe you should go to apologetics and make a thread on why pets should not be spayed and neutered.
After all they can make their own decisions.
*Oh yes they should be fruitful and multiply must not forget that.*
Now who's being silly? You start an argument and then you want me to go start a thread in apologetics over it? And then you mock your own God?

Sheesh. I'm outta here.

If you want to be abusive and prevent animals from breeding, go ahead. But I can't accept your crocodile tears or your deranged "silliness".

in texas you can get put in jail for abusing/neglecting an animal.. and the humane society spays and neuters pets before they put them up for adoption...

i agree i wish something could be done.. i think all we can do tho is, if you live in a state where it is illegal to mistreat pets.. then u should report it!
i have an older sister who likes to get and mistreat pets.. and i dont really know what to do about it.. i want to report it.. or tell her about it.. but the best i can do is try to discourage her against getting one... every cat shes had (4 to my knowledge) she has abanded... some she abanded after abusing it.. her husband kicks and throws them to the point of injury :/

I would say that the best way to report animal abuse is to report it to your local police department. If they don't do anything then you should go higher up the chain.

That is great to spay and neuter first before they can be adopted.
I would ask your sister what joy she gets out of abusing animals and then abanding them.
They usually starve.
I know it is important to keep peace in the family but I believe I would report her if I thought it would help.
I just have a mistrust of people that mistreat animals.
Would anyone let someone abusive to animals babysit their children.
I wouldn't.
