Check out this site - http://www.starfast.org

It's encouraging Christians to "fast" from going to see the new Star Wars movie in a theatre. Quoted from the site: "Star Fast is an opportunity to take a stand with Jesus, reject the world with joy, and deny ourselves as Jesus commanded us to do. Together, we we will seek the light of God's face rather than the light of a movie screen."

UUuuuummm...But, it also says in the bible, "Thou shalt see Star Wars, for it is good..." no, but seriously....Not see Star Wars for some sort of lentish purpose???? I'm all for giving up things that keep us from God...It's good to praise his name and give him glory and think of him every minute of every waking day...But, I think if Jesus were on Earth, he would go see Star Wars with me....I mean, He is on Earth, and se HE IS going to go see Star Wars with me.

Hmm... I'm not a big fan of Star Wars (I know, I know), I like the movies, but haven't gotten excited over any of the impending releases. Not even when the original Star Wars came out. I'd agree with InnerPhyre, there's more worthwhile movies to fast from.

God bless!

Out of love for those who are watching Star Wars on the way to hell, Christians and churches everywhere should be setting an example by fasting from this movie. We should be weeping for those who are already looking forward to watching Episode III. In fact, it should take a direct instruction from the Holy Spirit to prompt any Christian to see this movie, against their own will.

ROTFLMBO!!!!!!!!
This is the kind of Xian Bullc**p that is trashing the religion and making a mockery of what God has for us. It's people like these that make the rest of us believers look like morons for being associated in the same religious standing as they are.

TerraSin says not to go see this movie. But not for some religious cultist excuse, but simply to save yourself $7-$12 for seeing a horrible movie.

I just read the article on the site. And really, how stodgy can you be? This is partly the same attitude that I have found in the church that I intern at and it just makes me shake my head. I'm going to say this and I want you all to catch it. If it were not for sin, God would have never had a serious thought. Meditate on this you will.

You think that is bad, this is how the same site tells people to get saved.

So how is a person really saved?

1. Begin with obtaining true faith in Jesus and the full message of salvation.
Proverbs 1:22, 9:6, John 3:16-18, Acts 5:20, 16:30-31, Romans 1:17, Ephesians 4:5, James 2:24

2. Realize that God regrets making you; you are worthless and hell bound.
Genesis 6:6, 8:21, Psalm 22:6, 51:5, Romans 3:10-18, 3:23 Mark 10:18, Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 2:3, 5:5-6, Revelation 21:8

3. Sit down, count the cost of salvation and give up everything to pay the price. Learn to despise money, reject the world, and become an alien.
Matthew 8:19-23, Mark 10:43-45, Luke 14:26-33, 16:13, 17:31-33, Acts 4:32, Romans 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 6:17, Philippians 2:5-8, 2:15, 2 Timothy 3:12, 1 Peter 2:11 Hebrews 11:36-38, 1 John 2:15-16, 3:16

4. Repent, hate your own life, and become a loser, led in every way by the Holy Spirit.
Mark 1:15, 8:34-35, Luke 14:25-26, John 3:20-21, 8:28-29, 12:25, Romans 8:13-14, Galatians 5:17

5. Prepare to suffer against sins in your life and to be crucified to sin.
Luke 14:27, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 1:29, Colossians 3:5, Hebrews 5:7-8, 11:25, 12:4-6, 1 Peter 4:1-2, 1 John 1:7, 2:6

6. Wash away your sins through baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and receive the gift and power of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19-20, John 3:3-5, Acts 2:37-38, 8:36-39, 10:48, 22:16, 1 Peter 3:21, 1 John 5:7-8, Titus 3:4-6

7. By faith, as you deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow Jesus, confess with your mouth, and believe in your heart every day that Jesus is Lord and you will be saved.
Luke 9:23, Romans 1:5, 10:9-10, 2 Timothy 2:19, 2:22, Hebrews 13:15-16, James 1:2

And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.' (Acts 22:16)

Fast from Star Wars?

That's a joke right?

How do you fast from a movie? I can understand a TV show, or TV in general, something that implies a continuous action you are choosing to abstain from.
Choosing to not see a movie and fasting...I don't see the association. Of course I fail to understand why someone should fast from star wars. Given the stuff that is played on TV and radio, star wars is about the only thing that isn't total rot.

So if this isn't a joke, I think it's ridiculous enough to be considered a joke.

is that site a mirror of LandoverBaptist? i wasn't too impressed with Ep 1 and 2 (actually skipped 2 in the theatre) but 3 looks interesting. i reckon with all the focus on the rise of Vader it might be prudent to spend that time reflecting on God and His glory rather than the glory of the Sith. :|

The whole point of star wars is the redemption of the character of anakin skywalker.
episode 3 is going to be the darkest point in this character's life. The thing is, this is a story. And to fast from something like this is ludicrous because the whole point of fasting is that you are telling your flesh that your spirit is in control not the other way around. If you don't want to see the movie, then don't see it. It's a choice it's not something that you have to do. Fasting is usually associated with food, but it could be used for things like TV and other things. But a movie is a one time thing. It just doesn't work out well.

And after reading what you posted about the same sites idea of salvation, I have to say, I'm not the least bit surprised. It's people like these that give christians the reputation they have in the public's eye.

 I'm at a bit of a loss as to why it would disturb you so much, considering it's merely repeating what Scripture says. I assume you looked up the Scripture references. So what exactly is so disturbing about it?

 Umm, you mean the reputation of being a fun-loving social club that revolves around self-centered entertainment and men's opinions, is only interested in hype and money, and is little different in every respect from the world, while hypocritcially tacking on the name of God?
