I would have to look a bit more into the Governator™, but he is a republican I could see myself voting for.

Is there any restriction for being US born for VP?

McCain-Governator(his name is too hard to spell) VS Dean-Obama.

Now there is an election that I would like to see. It would greatly depend on our current state of affairs in '08, to decide who I would vote for. I like McCain budget wise, but he's a bit conservative socially. I could deal with him in presidency I think though. I would rely on Dean-Obama though if the conservatives go a bit too far on social policy in the next 4 years.

I love how Obama is now the favorite all the dems like to lean on....I live in IL and the guy will now inherit most liberal ever...did you know he was in favor of sex-ed in kindergaten? What's up with that.....just because he waxed sacrificial lamb Alan Keyes doesnt mean squat....If Fitzgerald would have ran again, Obama would have went the Repres. route as Fitzgerald was highly liked by many here. Let's not forget...the Chicago Tribune spent almost 1.5 Mil to expose Jack Ryan's past, which in all reality was nothing compared to what Clinton did with Lewinsky. His wife was willing and it was so many years ago. Ryan was within striking distance of Obama, and the messed up Republican party in IL hated that Ryan was so conservative so they were all behind removing him. I have lived in IL my whole life, and the GOP in this state is in utter chaos. If the dems are smart they will let Obama be a senator for 6 years first, then go from there...more like 2012 before you see his name on a ticket...especially if Giuliani runs....you can almost guarantee a republican win if he runs as so many dems like him because he is moderate.

McCain I could withstand, but he lost a bit of respect from me in the last couple months of the election - he just seemed to be parroting talking points too much.

Obama, if he stays as interesting as he was this year, will be a possible presidential candidate down the line. But I can't see him being a candidate in 2008; he just won't have the experience. He might have a good chance of winning when he does run. A lot of people seem to like him and he won his race by a landslide. But then again, he was running against Alan Keyes.

Not only was he running against Keyes, but he is Senator for a predominately Democrat state. Kerry won with like 65 percent or something.

Illinois has actually always been a predominately Republican state. Cook county Illinois is the only county where a Democrat ever really has a chance of getting elected. Every other county in the state is mostly republican. We went 25 years with only Republicans as Governor. I was surprised when both of the last 2 presidential elections went to the Democrats. But one of the reasons could be that the last Republican Governor was George Ryan and his administration was laced with scandal. If Fitzgerald ran again against Obama, he probably would have won, as he was a popular senator. Obama won because the Illinois Republican party couldn't put a decent challenger against him.

Yes. The vice president must be able to serve as president, which for now means that he must be native born.

This rule could be changed be constitutional amendment, but I think a majority of Americans still have difficulty with the idea that people born elsewhere can really be Americans.

I'm hoping so far for Obama vs McCain in '08.
I think you'll be disappointed.

McCain has shown no further interest in pursuing the presidency.

While Obama certainly is a rising star it will be years before he has the political experience to be president. Maybe 2012 or 2016.

Other than Guiliani I can't think of a single Rep that could be elected in 08. Other than Hillary (possibly Lieberman) I can't think of a Dem. 4 years can change a lot. Afterall, who hear ever heard of Kerry or Edwards before the DNC primaries?

Interesting considering the first presidents were foreign born.

I think the change is inevitable... but there definately need to be safeguards put in place.

thats the problem....cook county...and lake county where I live used be to like 70-75% republican now it is about 55-45 split. The republican party is in shambles thanks to the "leadership" of George "soon to be in prison" Ryan and Judy "i am actually a democrat" Baar-Topinka. The IL GOP for the most part is very very moderate now and the few conservatives that are left in the GOP are minorities and not listened to by the majority of people who are the so called leaders in this state.....more and more each year IL is turning into the Massachusetts of the Midwest.

Have you guys seen the county by county presidential breakdown of the country on hannity.com? The entire thing is red except where big liberal cities are where corruption runs wild....Chicago, LA, NY, Boston, etc..

Yeah, I agree that George Ryan messed up a lot for the Republicans. The Illinois GOP is pretty much like the nationwide Democratic Party... they're both TKO'ed. I guess the coming years will tell if the IL GOP will re-evaluate themselves or become a minor party in this state. I am a Democrat, but I would hope the Republican party can heal itself because I believe everyone should be represented in Government, and most conservatives in Illinois are not getting that representation.

Um, no, the first Presidents were not foreign born.

Washington was born in Virginia.
Adams was born in Massachussetts
Jefferson was born in Virginia
Madison was born in Virginia
Monroe was born in Virginia.

No president has ever been foreign born. And I seriously doubt anyone ever will. The majority of the country is opposed to this and I can't see an amendment ever being passed. Congress has already tried 26 times in the history of the country to pass such an amendment, and it has always failed.

I stand corrected... thank you.

As for amendments... our culture is changing... and as your link shows, there are those with the power to write laws are not outright opposed to it. In this current state of Political Correctness... I think you will find the amendment to be much easier then you think.
