Is it really stealing when you use programs like kazaa to download programs that you would normally have to pay money for? You can go onto Kazaa and download Photoshop 7 which would sell for hundreds...and download it for free? Is it stealing?

(I ask that for MP3 downloading, goto the other post I have concerning it)

It is electronic theft using the internet. By downloading those songs or software over the internet there is no way for any money to reach the people who make the software or songs because you haven't paid for it. You just simply took it. Now if you went to a pay website and paid first and then downloaded the money gets sent to the people who made the music and software. That wouldn't be theft. They have their money and you have your songs or software.

If you download the product and don't purchase a license, you're stealing.

I don't know how I feel about MP3's. Back before Cd's no one had a problem with anyone recording music onto blank tapes, and giving them to their friends, or recording music off the radio. When the quality of the recording got better, and the number of people you could trade music with became larger that's when it became an issue.

Yes, using programs such as Kazaa is stealing, and I have done more than my fair share of it. However, one thing that I want to point out, is that I have a SIZEABLE CD collection, many CD's that I purchased because I liked 1 or 2 songs on the CD, and I had hoped that the CD offered something better than what the radio offered. Well, in most of the cases, the Radio song was the best one on the CD. I don't have a problem paying $16 for 10 good songs, I do have a problem paying $16 for 2 good songs, and 8 terrible songs.

Programs like Napster could have been an awesome boone to the artists, specifically, because you would pay $1-2 per song, and only download the songs you wanted, and the money would go DIRECTLY into the artists pocket.

The problem I have with the music industry as it now stands, is that you pay $16 for a CD, which the artits receives, maybe $3, out of which they have to pay for studio time, post production, etc. Its the RECORD companies that are agains napster and Kazaa...

I have been guilty of downloading illegal MP3's, but, when I consider the music worth buying, I WILL go to the record store and purchase the album, or whatever software I have downloaded.

In any case, that's my 2 cents. Take them for what they are worth.

stealing? yeah ok. it is stealing in the sense that the developers of the software don't get their money. but think of all the knowlege that can be gained from downloading software. i have over 300,000 dollars in software i didn't pay for. and i would have never been able or would've paid for it all anyway. but seeing it's unbelievably easy access i have learned how to use complex programs and have furthered my education. things that will help me in the future. plus i think that some of the prices on some of the software is pretty high and i think that is one of the key reasons that people download them in the first place. not trying to sugar coat the situation but think of it as robin hood robbing from the rich to feed the poor. and i am definitly poor

It is stealing. Doesn't matter how you try to justify it. It is a product that you are supposed to pay and you didn't. I don't know why that is so hard to understand for people. Everyone complains that the software or music costs too much and that is their excuse for stealing it. Well, a Ferrari costs a lot of money, but you don't see me driving around in a stolen one.

The more software and music that gets ripped off, the more they will jack up prices to try and deal with the piracy issue. Then people will complain that prices are going up and steal more. See a problem here?

At least with music, one of the large record labels just announced price cuts at retail on ALL their cds. That should help get the prices down a little.

Yes it's stealing! From the music standpoint I went to college for music in hopes of gaining connections so that I could actually make a living at it. Those who have albums out, for the most part, have worked really hard and spent sometimes many years getting to that point. They've earned the money they are making. There's no reason at all to steal the album, if you like it....buy it.
