    Hi people!

Hi martinna, welcome to CF, and especially the SF&F forum  What are some of your favorite books, movies and shows in the genres? I am a big fan of Azimov's Foundation series, Dune, LOTR and Narnia; Labyrinth, Terminator 1+2 and Galaxy Quest; Battlestar Galactica, Buffy and Angel. YN.

    Question from over the pond

I would say the lowest, IMO. The Sport does not try to be serious and people know it is a joke, unlike The Sun. I like The Independent too - it has a pretty good range of views despite its general left-liberal line (which is my line, so much as I can be said to have one). Also, The Telegraph...

    Future of the 1611 Bank

Sounds like a good idea to me.

    Best Star Trek captain

Always fun - although it has been ages since I have seen any. Ever thought of getting a flat-screen attached to the ceiling so you can watch whilst lying flat in bed? Seriously, why not? Is that the one where the ship was sheltering in their warp-field, or something, and so causing...

    Harry Potter is great.

HP is certainly very good - a really enjoyable, gripping read. Now, 'The Onion' really is great!

    Best Star Trek captain

That's where I recognise him from! Also - any '24' fans notice that the President was a vulcan captain in Enterprise?! I am over half-way through the first series, and he has not been great, but maybe he grows into it and is better in the second.

    Use of scapulars among Anglicans

Thanks for the clarification (and SeenAndUnseen). I certainly had not thought that you were saying it's a requirement for salvation. I must say that I am somewhat uncomfortable with such piety, but you attitude to it seems to be great, and I pray that God will use it to richly bless you...

Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord, Hosanna! Hosanna!

It is effectively used to mean "praise God!". According to footnotes in NLT Bible; "Hosanna, an exclamation of praise that literally means 'save now'." Love YN.

Thanks FR, God bless you and all my STR brothers and sisters on Palm Sunday  Love YN.

    Use of scapulars among Anglicans

Thanks for the info, I found it interesting - especially the middle bit, as after reading your first post I had decided to ask a question about this, until I read Pamela's! Whilst I would certainly disagree with calling anything but communion and baptism a sacrament, given that you do think...

    Presbyterianise the CofE!

The CofE (I do not know about the rest) is presbyterian - the deaneries are effectively presbyteries. We are just episcopal as well! Also, whilst we should of course follow all the precepts given for how a church should be in the NT, to also look at what we are told the church happens to be...

    Star Trek: The Lost Generation

That was certainly not the best of movies!

    Jesus said, "When you fast..."

True - but it would be an odd thing to say to someone whom you were not expecting to go highdiving. I think Jesus' statement does basically expect that people will fast. See also Mark 2:20 "But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and on that day they will...

    Best Star Trek captain

I liked him in Dune, great movie - crazy, but doing a movie of that book was practically imposible, and only someone like Lynch (sp?) could have come close. You can really tell that Stewart trained as a theatre actor and is a member of the Royal Shakespear Company. He got really fed up with...

    Star Trek: The Lost Generation

I guess it depends what you like - I really enjoy the seriousness of the show, and the mood of the new one does seem to fit the basic premise (a small remainder of the human race struggling to avoid extinction). Also, I never saw that much of the origional and was not a huge fan, so the...
